Default Katech Torquer LS7 Cam now available

600hp 570 lb-ft of torque

220/244 @ .050, .615/.648 lift 110LSA




We have this cam in our Z06 vehicle packages and it's a rocket. It feels much faster than our 640hp Camaro because the torque comes on so fast and so strong. It also idles and is very drivable.

Requires upgraded springs $16/ea (65 grams)
titanium retainers KAT-4678 $16/ea (5.5 grams)

Hi Jason, could you please post a dyno comparsion of this cam compared to the 640HP cam? My 427 LS2 with ETP LS7 top end should hit the rollers and track over the next couple of days, I post my results when I have them...

Jason, Another thing I noticed was that it seems to peak at 6000RPM... isn't that a little early?

Nope, its just great. We decided to trade off some peak power and redline power for a lot of torque a lot of drivablity. I've driven both cars and I'd definitely make the trade-off if it was my car.

yeah it seems to die at 6000rpm's. thats strange.

I hear you... it seems like cam selection is becoming quite an artform when it comes to the LS7 I am faced with a simmilar dilema with my setup... I have a choice between 2 cams that look somewhat like your Street Attack and Torquer... my car is stalled A4 with a converter that flashes in the 4K range... If you could post a dyno overlay of both cams that would be great! My car spends 90% of it's life at the track, so I don't mind sacrificing some driveability...

Is it safe to say the Torquer Z06 makes about 500RWHP?

Awesome cam. What a great setup for a street car! I wish more vendors would come out with grinds like this for those of us who only go to the track a few times per year. I would much rather have the massive torque and early horsepower peak in my car than a 7000 rpm spinner.

I had the chart and then realized it was the wrong correction factor. I'm going to try to post the correct one up tomorrow. Yea the torquer in a 06 Z06 makes about 500rwhp on a Mustang.

Jason, How well do you think the stock pistons and rings will hold up to this cam especially if I have to relieve the pistons a little for the increased lift? Are the cast stock pistons up to the task?

Stock pistons have sufficient valve clearance. We do recommend upgrading to forged pistons on any enhanced LS7, but it's your choice.

from 5200 to redline the cam drops and looses 120 ftlbs of tq. in my mind a torquer cam shoud make torque and hold it with some loss but not dramatic like this is. usuable power is after you shift and where the rpms are held in the next gear. in my opninion, if you run this cam, my as well cut the redline back to 6k and shift early, there is no reason to spin it up to 6800, its a waste. hp dives off at 6 and your catching the torque curve on its way down after 6k. i mean if this is set up for driveability no reason to wrap the RPMS out if the cam cant carry the power/tq to redline.

How well would this cam work in an L92 stroked out to 416 cubes with 4in crank, 6.125 rods and forged pistons, also stock valve sizes in the L92 heads with some mild port matching and bowl blending work?

BTW: im putting it in my 92 Sonoma GT with a T-56 backing it up.

sounds like a mean cam.... what about a 408 iron block with nitrous pistons and L92 heads setup??? come on....... someone test this!!

How would this be on a 364? I know the Helion cam has larger specs than this and seems to be driveable for the most part. Was this designed to run with the LS2 as well as the LS7 or really just for the LS7?

EDIT - Just a heads up to Katech, the specs on you website for the cam are wrong, on the site it's listed as: 220 / 224 @ .050, .615 / .648 lift, 110 LSA ....

Thanks for the heads up on that typo. I'll be fixing that tomorrow.


This cam was developed just for the LS7. I don't have any data for a 364.

Jason,

Hey, I don't mean to nitpick but whenever you post up dyno numbers, you should make it loud and clear whether the numbers are at the crank or at the rear wheels. I see this is at the crank; i.e. flywheel horsepower, engine dyno, etc.

Which kind of stinks for this site since we are all used to seeing rear wheel numbers and corrections factors are always to be taken with a grain of salt.

HP is a caculated funtion of TQ where HP=TQ at 5252 rpms

HP = ((TQ x rpms) / 5252 )


and arn't LSx intakes and heads desigend for max tq about 4400-4800 and max hp at 6100-6300 so yes you are correct that there is no reason to spin up to 6800 rpms.

The higher the low end tq 2400 to 4800 the quicker off the line or out of corners.
