do I just slid it on the crank and torque it down or do I have to check for being centered?

I would make sure it is centered. They do it that way at the factory for a reason.

Correct way:
Buy a manual or search for an accurate procedure, then follow it.

There are measurements to be taken w/ the pump cover off, to ensure the pump housing is properly centered and the eccentric has the right spacing. Not something you want to trust to luck.

You have to have equal amount around it. have to use a feeler gauge, but ive heard you can put it on and loosely tighten and and turn it over about 4 times and it will be centered, then it doesn't take as long to check with a feeler gauge. I cant remember the exact thousandths it is though

^ I did it that way. Installed it hand/snug tight, spun the crank a few times and torqued it up. Haven't had any problems and the oil pressure is fine.
