ported 5.3 or LS3 heads on a stock LS2 shortblock?
Trying to decide what to run on a stock 2006 LS2 GTO shortblock that I want to put a set of heads on.
1st set is some hand ported 5.3's with larger s/s valves and dual springs that flow a little more than 300cfm. They made 440rwhp/405rwtq with a 232/234 cam/LS6 intake on an M6 camaro. Approx 59cc
2nd set is from TSP ported LS3 heads with lightweight s/s valves and dual springs. 70cc and flow approx 350cfm
Is it a no brainer to use the LS3 heads and LS3 intake over the 5.3 heads/LS6 intake? The compression will be probably 1 point higher with the 5.3's.
Should I mill the LS3 heads to increase compression? What would compression be with them at 70cc?

ha ha.... I did a search for a while and found my own thread on this (which is the same) from June 2011!

So fast forward 7 months..... Should I stick with the LS3 heads?

5.3's ported, we did ls3s and it just dosn't pull off the line. the 5.3 will make more torq and get you moving. If you were going w more cubes like a 402, i would say the ls3's.

On a normal street car with ~3500 or more curb weight I would say the 5.3s with higher compression for increased torque down low.
But seeing how this is going to go (correct me if I'm wrong) in a sub 3000 curb weight car I say go for the higher flowing LS3s as you probably won't miss much of the low end torque on such a light car.

Be careful with the 5.3's on an LS2....your compression gets up there quick with them, especially after any milling! With the right cam selection, I think the LS3's would work very well on the LS2 short-block for you.
