Ls3 camshaft for a C5 that autox's

I have a C5 Z06 that has a LS3 swapped in. the engine has a Vengeance racing stage 3 cam ( 231/243/ .616/.624/ 115+3). The car is not drag raced it is my SSM Autox ride. This cam is causing a surge and has a sizable jump in power at 4k rpm. this make the car difficult to autox as the power hit mid corner. I am thinking of swapping out the cam to something that will smooth out the power band. I was thinking something ing the 224 range. Anyone have any suggestions? I am willing to lose some peak #'s to gain under the curve.

Sounds like more of a tuning issue rather than cam!

I run a Comp Cam, 231 239 .617 .624 113, in our LS3 and the power is very smooth and progressive.
In fact when overlaying the dyno graph of this and the previous LS1 with a 228 228 .588 .588 113 Speed Inc/Comp Cam they are almost identical other than being about 50 horsepower above.

Is your car the one I've seen in the same shop as Kaizen's dyno at Devens across from KTR? Can I tune it for you before you go swapping/changing things?

Just pull some timing in that area to ramp the power in a little better. Just keep in mind that is where you are just about making peak tq.

Yes it prob was the EB c5 Z06 , it was there for a alignment and new radiator. The car is at slowhawks right now for a revised tune. we will see if its better as the 1st event is Saturday

If you search in the C6 Tech in the CF you may find some good info regarding cam choices with the LS3 combo's.

I don't Auto X anymore but I certainly can relate to your throttle transition issue's. Taking timing out in the problems area's isn't going to help the on/off when coming on to the cam if that is the problem.......when you need to modulate the throttle.

I would sure like to know how slowhawk makes out!

That's cool, hopefully you'll be dialed in soon enough. I'm guessing someone else did the initial tune?

Yea the car came from down south and they only did a WOT tune , no drive tune. so the pert throttle and cold start was bad, the car was getting like 9 mpg , Don did a 1st pass on it and fixed 95% of the issues. He is working on it now to get those last items solved if he can

We would be happy to spec a camshaft that will be more suited to your application. I would ask that you download and complete our Custom Camshaft Order Form found on our online store. Once we receive your completed order form we will have our cam specifications back to you within 24 hours.

Based on what I was reading, I kinda figured that the car just needed some tuning work. I really doubt you'll need to change the cam...granted there might be a way to make it better for what you do, but I'd say with just a good tune in the car you'll be a bazillion times better than you were before.
