Currently: I work at a Hummer dealership and have a customer with a 04 Hummer H2. It already has a Magnacharger Supercharger. This vehicle needs an engine due to overheating and I am trying to help the customer with his interest in 'upgrading' sort of speak.
I am pretty much the only performance guy at my work, so help from others there is slim to none.

First, I assume an ls7 can be bolted right into a already 6.0 H2. Is this true? Without asking to many questions right off the bat before doing any real research, would doing this kind of engine swap into this particular vehicle be a job or a project?
Keep in mind that I am at a Gm dealership, not a speedshop. Fabrication is not what we do on a regular basis.

Also, a little off the exact topic. Using the already existing supercharger on a new ls7 would be good. I wouldn't know if it could bolt up though.

As far as the engine itself it should bolt right up. The only thing I do not know is about the electronics. Good luck. I hope it works out for you.

IMO that would be MAJOR work.

First start by taking that brand new crate LS7 you bought and tearing it all the way down to replace the reluctor ring on the crank.

If that is not enough for you, figure out how to setup the dry sump system in the H2.

I could go on....

You would be MUCH better in my opinion having someone build something that was not meant for a 3300 lb car spinning to 7500 RPM. Have someone build the engine that is in it. You can build a nice 408 that will pull a semi trailer with a blower on it. That Maggie is not going to get you too far, but 500 HP is not out of the question.

Save yourself some headaches and get a built engine from a forum vendor.

I'd toss in a nice 402/408 and make a TQ monster or if you want a 427 get an sdpc or katech 427 shortblock with a nice heads cam package.... direct swap in no dry sump with any of those vs the dry sump and reluctor issues..

I think thats what the big heavy H2 needs....TQ not a high rev ls7.. not to mention a forged bottom end with ther other motors.. whereas the ls7 isn't

hrmm, could take out some guess work. My first thought about going with a factory gm engine would be warranty(since thats a major thing with dealership work)...but I guess any engine built would have some kind of warranty.

Sponsor built engines: they don't warranty any forced induction engines they build.

We sell Magnacharger superchargered H2s that retain the 3/36k warranty. Now that Gm has that 100k powertrain warranty, we can't supercharge them anymore with a factory warranty because Magna won't warranty up that high.

So far we can't warranty supercharged H3's yet either.

Sell the Magnacharger, buy a Kenne Bell and a forged 408.

Your Magnacharger will not fit the factory LS7 cylinder head and would struggle to work well on that big of an engine.
We can build you a durable 402 that your customer will like that will still use the Magnacharger.

As the title suggests I want to swap to the LS7 motor for my off road duties. GM did it with the hummer H3 R . I do know that the transmission might have to be swapped (currently a 4L60) GM used the 4L65 in the H3 R. Also there is the issue of a dry sump system. Any help where I can get even a direct bolt on will be much appreciated. I want the vehicle to retain its 4 wheel drive system. Thanks

Like Kurt said the LS7 heads are rectangular and the LS1 heads you have are cathedral port.... so your supercharger won't work.

You can build a 427ci setup by taking an LS3 block and 4.1" crank as well. Or a 440ci+ setup with LS7 block and 4.1" crank.

Since your truck is soooo heavy... you would be better off with some aftermarket cathedral port heads as the LS7 heads make power higher up in the RPMs.... and they are big soggy down low. A 440ci stroker LS7 with some TFS 235cc heads and a FAST 102mm intake would make for a nice combo. 600rwhp all motor can be achieved with a manual transmission. Expect to lose about 50rwhp or more with an auto.

If you don't want headaches install a 4L80E transmission and never look back. Big HP, heavy weight, and abusive driving will smoke a built 4L65 over time.
