How are the 454's (and bigger) holding up ? I see so many works/won't work discussions about long stroke motors, I'm hoping those of you who have them will chime in. Thanks! |
Wow, hot topic! |
no one knows , the people who can afford them probably dont drive their cars much anyway . I mean if your gonna drop a bunch on your engine your more than likely not putting 10k miles on it a year. I dont think their are a ton of guys on here with 454 and larger ls engines . Maybe 20 max . |
I agree with ramairetransam... People who have those blocks probably dont drive thrm much at all, probably just hit the track often. |
Built a solid roller 440 and it's for racing, no street use at all |

theres def a ton of big cube LS motors out there but they are in race cars... if you want to go over 450cubes you're generally better off with a big block, it'll be cheaper and last longer |

I know what you were getting at, but I'm going to guess that there are way more large displacement guys than that. |

True. I'm sure there are dozens of 454ish LSx guys here on tech. I just installed my 470ci solid roller LSX and it will be strictly a street car. However it won't be a DD. Doesn't hurt that it has one of Shawn's motors in it. :burn: |
4.250 stroke I assume? Makes for insane piston speeds with a solid roller at high RPM! That's got to be a handful to keep straight :drive:

Thanks. Yep Shawn is a stand up guy. Glad his engine is in my car. Yep 4.250 stroke. 8K rpm solid roller, HUGE cam, 12.5CR, Dual 4bbl TBs should be all of 700rwhp thru an auto on pump gas- yes, pump gas. It was built to handle a 500 shot on top. |

What intake manifold are you running? Any pics of the setup? |
Not much history to go on from me but I've had my HKE built, LS2/7, N/A, pump gas, 454 running right at a year now. ~1K miles & 40+ hits on it. Last time out it ran it's quickest time (9.993); there's no evidence it's "fading". It's far from a DD but is a street car. Certainly not an engine I would pick for a DD http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...f/IMG_2063.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...wolf/454-1.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...sewolf/2-8.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~rcrouchet/i...gto-launch.JPG |

Not Marcella, even better. It's a one off piece by VA Speed at the tune of $8K. It's basically a hi-Ram/sheetmetal intake which has been widened to bolt directly to the heads in a tall deck application. |

Im at 40,000 miles in my 440 Darton. Valvetrain was not set up right first up from vendor. Cam got trashed. Rebuilt better and going ok so far. Goal is 200,000 with any luck. It eats a bit of oil. I dont think the hone job or piston to bore setup was done right. But its tolerable. Next time, Id go 427 to keep parts off the shelf. But no hesitation in doing a stroker again. OEM config.. |
probably not more then 2000 miles on mine. Only issue is a blown rear main so I've installed a vacum pump. Since the pump install I haven't had a chance to drive it because of a drive train issue. Hopefully have all the little bugs out of the car this spring and finish off the SD tuning with the 102/102 set up and better exhaust. |

HKE 468 in my C6. Not many miles but it never burned a drop of oil in 2k miles. My new 468 setup in my SLC won't be enough of a daily driver to really validate issues. I've gone with a 6 stage dry sump so I doubt I will have any oil consumption issues regardless. I'm considering a 454 for my daily driver (G8). I'm pretty comfortable with the prospective reliability... |
