Looks good but how do you verify that the seal is centered on the balancer or the crank. yes the cover is but the seal might not be.

Hi maroonls1z,
As you slide the cover on that plastic piece falls off and does not hold the cover in alignment with the crank. That plastic piece is just to hold the seal lips open so they will slide over the crank without folding in. The seal has lube on the lips form the factory. We didn't say to lube the seal, just put some on the tool to help it slide on and off.

Thanks
Christian

Hi Tim,
Unless the seal is defective and not same size all the way around it will be centered since it is centered in the cover.

Thanks
Christian

Yeah, that's how I've always done it - used the Kent-Moore tools a couple of times but really they're designed for someone who is incapable of doing it without their hands being held. Much faster to center up on the crank flange and damper hub, then double check with feeler gauges and a straight edge.

I do like these tools though, might still grab them.

on your new oil pump alignment tool do you not disassemble the pump to use it? the pictures you have posted show an assembled pump being aligned.

Today learned one more thing, GM motors are lack of engineering, normally you have a dowel pins for those flanges, so no alignment is required.

Hey guys, thought I'd do a quick follow-up "review" if you will on the front/rear alignment tools: Motor has a month of driving on it and zero leaks. When putting the rear seal on, it was butter with the GM plastic insert separating nicely as the seal went in nice and square. Wished the oil pump tool was around when I bought these seal tools, but ended up using six feeler gauges from Schumann's pump alignment kit - I would think the Saccity tool would make pump install far easier and much faster than the feeler gauge method. Anyways, these tools are reasonably inexpensive and are worth it to idiot proof seal/cover installs.

I am not confused, I just know that small things make your life easier, guys who make these tools prove it. My point was that having dowel pins om such a prats as front, rear seal and oil pump flanges makes it much more easy to install.
