Default New LQ build need opinions and advice

I am in the process of building a 408 out of a LQ block from and 05 silverado 2500. The motor will go in my 2000 SS. Basically what I am looking for is a mild build for now set up to run boost in the future when funds allow it. So I am looking into a Callies Compstar crank 4.00" stroke, eagle connecting rods, Wiseco pistons (wanting a lower compression build so not sure which pistons to run). More than likely will run Ls3 heads and a 102 fast intake/tb. Also I am not sure what cam to run with wanting to run boost in the future.

I have a basic understanding of where I want to go but am sure I am missing things. Are there any commonly missed parts or anything that you all can think of? Any help would be appreciated.

Tick 4 cam
TSP, ERL ... etc shortblock
AI,WCCH .... etc heads set up 4 boost
on & on

I plan to run N/A for awhile so I want a nice set up that will be easy to retune for boost. Possibly upgrade heads at that point in time as well

Got the same block ... but keep Comp. around 9.5 for N/a you can add a thicker gasket 2 lower the compression once you have the turbo set-up... It will cost you. You will have a N/a but how long b 4 the turbo...

Also how about a N/a 600-700 hp LQ9 sound and you don't spend as much..
You will never see that much unless 4 drag...Hope your chassis can take that much TQ.... Things will break more time than not with 700 to 800 ftlbs of TQ... a LQ9 408 made 550hp N/A with 14lbs of boost it made over a grand cheap... but useable HP and HP are 2 different things .. But if you want the turbo set up I got it on file.

Now listening 2: Drake 0-100

Well heres a quick 1. We over here talking & laughing ....
LQ9 408 stroker 9.5 compression if we can get 500 n/a produced @ a atomospheric pressure of 14.7 psi which is real world... well the Turbo is the multiplier 14.7psi of boost = 2 1000hp..
4inch crank
6.125 rod
-10 cc dish pistons with total seal rings
AFR 225 72 cc heads with MLS gaskets
Solid roller 242/248 .600 lift Crane solid roller lifters
Vic. Jr intake..
single Turbonetics T98 set up.

Change the intake and the solid roller and there you go...

your on your own 4 the exhaust and turbo set-up. Get the short block set up 1st... Knowing what CC your heads R will tell you how big the dish will be to get the correct Compression ratio.. that in tern will dictate the cam - then you need 2 no how much boost you really may need or want.

Awesome thanks for the advice. And honestly I have no idea on the time frame it will all depend on the finances. I want the 408 done soon and have it in the car so I can beef up what I need to. More than likely the engine install will be a winter project as the car runs now with the ls1 so I can take my time and build it right.

Update on the build.

I have LS3 heads with a three angle valve job, 11 degree valve angle, will be running dual springs, and factory rockers with the trunnion upgrade.

Short block is going as stated above but still have not selected the exact pistons I want to run. Will be running steel piston rings no matter what for the added strength for future boost.

I did also pick up a fast 102 and will be matching with either a big mouth 92tb or 102. Not sure I have seen the power numbers increases to throw down more cash for the 102.

I am still undecided on the cam at the moment. I need to research some more and talk to my builder on that one.

I know I am missing some things but let me know what you guys think and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

KyleLanter looks like your headed in a good direction and I think we could help you out with some of the things your questioning. We build a ton of engines here especially LQs. We also do a lot of boosted engine builds and would love to be a resource to you for parts and advice. This week alone we are building several engines, one of which is a 408 going into a 2001 Camaro. Let us know how we can help, it looks like we can hook you up on all the things you will be needing.
