PRC 255 heads or FRH stage 1 ls3 heads
I was originally going to buy Mast med bore ls3 heads, but I've seen a lot of guys waiting for 2+ months yet they were told they were in stock or would ship within a week.
Anyhow, pulled my ls3 heads this weekend. Can sell the heads and with the money I was going to pay for the cnc job, I can almost cover new prc 255 with hollow stems and springs.
For those of you who have the 255s, how do you like them? I haven't seen enough evidence to sway me either way. Chris Frank was a nice guy over the phone however.
This is going on a stock bottom ls3 with a cam motion LL solid roller. Haven't decided on specs yet because I can't decide on heads. Was running a 232/238 .621/.603 113lsa cam that laid down 484/444 and 400wtq at 1900rpms.

I'll say this having TFS heads ported will cost you the price of the head and the cnc work..Oh you pay for their Knowledge $
Also to make a long story very short...as most know I love heads, @ the most with anyone of these heads there will only be a 10 to 20 hp difference @ the flywheel if that. More to the lower side. As I stated in another post, aftermarket heads are better but there just a nicer factory head. Think about it?
Pick your Poison or your wallet amount.

Well took a break after Beast Mode's Td
Tom is to pretty for me
But I looked and I see no as cast TFS LS3 heads, Rise of the Phoenix you may have been thinking of a cathedral 220 as cast but I have never heard of none. Now they do sell a bare CNC ls3 head that was $902 bucks when they 1st came out, had them on 12/20 2013 - sold them I needed the cash. But they did a mark up after Summit picked TFS up. to $1050 ea. so $2100 + tax dollars vs $1804 (J used to get flat rate no tax) so I stuck with my LS3 I had in my closet since 08 @ $175 ea bare.
Game tied Mr Brady

I'm in this exact same situation and making the same considerations at the moment. I've spoken to TSP and TEA. I'm leaning towards a ported set of LS3's myself. If I had to choose between the 2 aftermarket castings, I would probably lean towards the TEA/TFS setup, but that is purely based on input I've received from a few engine builders and the data (or lack thereof) which I've been able to accumulate from the forums...
I have read that Chris Frank can get the 'porter' TFS castings and does his own port job on them. Follow this link on his website:
http://www.frankensteinracingheads.c...ads/98-tfs-ls3
I've been trying to catch him on the phone to discuss this very option as well as a ported set of LS3's. He is on my short-list of potential porters (along with AI). I just need to actually talk to each and make my decision (everyone seems to be pretty busy and hard to get on the phone right now).
I'm also looking to have my Victor Jr. ported at the same time, so whomever I choose will need to offer that service as well.

I'm willing to bet there over $3200 vs the young man who started the thread who has Ls3"s to start with. Port work is $1200 add in springs and if doesn't already have them some hollow stem valves. So you mean to tell me that 10 HP is worth over 1200 bucks. Man lone me some money. Or did you read that mostly stock Ls3 heads darn near made 800 fwhp @ 8500 rpms with a stock Ls3. To many magazines have been read about what one head does over a stock set of factory heads.
This is from one of my good friends on here who is a major vendor and no it's not Mars@ Tick.
I'm willing to try,bet or either that if anyone purchases a aftermarket head that they will not make that much more power over a CNC ported LS3 head. I have a set of Stage1 FRH Ls3's & I'm willing to send them to a very reputable company for a comparison! They will have to change springs but I will pay 4 shipping. For that fact if anyone has a set of PRC 255's or TFS heads in Houston we could ask SAM to do a Comparison, aftermarket CNC heads Vs Factory CNC'ed heads.

Of course, most people on here don't want to hear that kind of talk . They think picking the hottest camshaft/head of the week (without any true testing) is the only way to make REAL power LOL!

I'm still leaning towards Chris. My only reason for this thread is the lack of supporting evidence for most heads on a 376. Most dyno sheets and et's I find for anything are on a 408/418/427 etc., which really isn't comparable for obvious reasons. I'll speak with Chris this morning when he gets it. I'm not sure on cam size yet. It will probably be a solid version of what I'm already running 232/238 .621/.603 113lsa. I may go a little bigger to move the power up a little higher. Car made 400wtq on that cam at 1900 rpms.

stock ls3 (376) for now. Will probably jump up to a 418 later on. Car is brand new, so I plan on getting some miles out of the stock bottom end for a bit.

Find a vender for Mast and talk with them first. From what I am hearing the venders can get the Mast heads MUCH faster and that they are getting them before the people ordering straight from Mast as I did.
If I had know this in the beginning I would have gone this way.
