Default My build: 427ci, FRH TFS heads, EPS cam, Vic. Jr

I've made reference in a few threads in this section of the forum about my recent rebuild. I wanted to post up the dyno results, so I ended up writing up a long post in that section with all the details. Not sure if everyone here reads that section or not, so here's a link just in case:

427ci, FRH ported TFS GenX LS3, EPS cam, Vic. Jr.

Here are the highlights of my combination:
  • LS7 block with 4.127" bore (machine work done by TSP)
  • Callies DragonSlayer 4.000" stroke crank with 2.000" rod journals
  • Callies Compstar 6.125" rods
  • TSP/Wiseco 4.127" pistons with 4cc valve reliefs
  • TFS GenX LS3 heads, custom ported by Frankenstein Racing Heads
  • 2.20" FRH lightweight intake valves
  • 1.60" Stainless exhaust valves
  • BTR Platinum .660" springs and titanium retainers
  • Cometic MLS head gaskets, 0.051" targeting 12:1 compression ratio
  • Cam speced by Geoff at EPS, ground by Cam Motion (238/248, .629/.604, 114+5)
  • Morel 5315 lifters
  • Stock LS3 rockers with Harland Sharpe trunion upgrade
  • Edelbrock Victor Jr. L92, ported by Frankenstein Racing Heads (plenum and port matched)
  • Deatschwerks 42# Injectors
  • Holley HP EFI ECU
  • Custom set of tri-y headers with 1.875" primaries to 2.25" then 3" collectors
  • Monster Clutch's LT1-S twin-disk clutch/flywheel

I am really happy with how the combination had turned out. If you have any questions or comments, fire away...

Thanx... 1971 Firebird T/A clone. The car started life as a Formula, but I've converted the sheetmetal. Here are a couple of pictures:

And from this past weekend...

That is a beautiful car. How well do those Azenis hold that power?

I just put a new set on last week before this event. They hold ok, but full throttle in first gear isn't going to happen. Second gear is pretty good, and by third they are fully sticking. I'm pretty happy with the combination on the whole, the torque arm rear suspension I have helps with the traction as well...

I will be doing a very similar build soon. That cam is exactly what I was thinking about running in my 427. how are the street manners? idle quality? I would imagine it almost idles like stock.....which is exactly what I am looking for.

I wouldn't say quite like stock, you can tell there is a cam there for sure, but I can idle it at 800rpm with no problems. On the highway, it will run with no bucking or stumbling in 6th gear at 1800rpm just fine. I don't have the tune perfectly dialed in yet for the best gas mileage, but it runs really smoothly around town and on the highway. Again, exactly what I asked for from Geoff and Chris.

We put a lot of work into modifying the shaker base to locate the shaker in the correct spot going through the hood. It's sensitive to the height as well as the front to back location. While the latter shouldn't be a problem if I went to an LS7, the height likely would be. And using a spacer if necessary wouldn't work well with the shaker base.

Regarding the LS7 dry sump conversion, it was mostly a matter of packaging and time to pull it together. But if I'm going to go through the trouble of converting, I would likely use a Dailey setup. That's the one which won't work with my accessory drive, which I don't want to abandon for a few reasons.
