Default 6.0 vs .40 overbore 6.0 worth it?

Quick argument guys:

Gotta Stock 6.0 lq9 im planning to build, have the oppourtunity to bore it .40 over. Im sure theres hp/tq to gain with the extra cubes but the main question is is it worth it??? 1500 bucks is what its going to cost out the door stock crank, bored, .40 over flycut pistons and everything..... what kinda gains possible? Im thinking the torque gain is worth it at least in the longrun when heads and cam are matched for an Max Effort N/A build which is what im shooting for.

Opinions and factual evidence welcome.

Well the 8 cubic inches may only be worth 10-12 horsepower by itself, but if you're considering LS3 style heads, the added bore size helps to un-shroud the large 2.165" intake valves.

I plan to go with an ls3 top end later on down the road.....so essentially im preparing for later plans while the engine is on a stand. Appreciate your info.

Bite the bullet and stroke it and be done with it. If you don't, you'll most likely regret it down the year. Then put ood heads on it when you can afford it.

And if it does not need a bore job you would still be spending the coin in the wrong place.
You want displacement and a cheap big as hole as possible top end.
IMO you would be better off learning how finesse can make power.
If the shortblock is OK just clean it put the money saved by not boring into a ported cathedral head.

thanks all, info much appreciated…..thinking about sticking a 4.000 crank and go 408 or 416 while the motor is on a stand.

Displacement needs proper heads/cam/valvetrain to really help power. It isn't as cheap as a crank......
