Default 383 Stroker vs 408 stroker

Alright guys I need some help haha. right now I have an 03 Silverado that was wrecked but can be fixed easily for $1000. First question is can that 4.8 be bored and stroked to a 383? Next question is would it be smarter to bore and stroke the 4.8 or sell the motor, trans, and harness and buy a 6.0 and stroke that to a 408? Which is the better idea??

Do you have a block right now to start with ?

Bigger the bore the more head options you'll have....

Yes I have a complete 4.8 right now. Can the 4.8 even be bored and stroked that much?

Yes the 4.8 (which is basically a 5.3 with a shorter stroke) can be punched out to LS1 bore size of ~3.9, then drop in a 4" crank and boom you have an iron 383.

Obviously the bigger 408 will give you more torque and power making capabilities due to the larger bore, but whether it's worth it is up to you and what you consdider to be the right cost for such an upgrade.

The answer is no. However you can take the 4.8 to a 383ci with a boring/4.000" crank.

To get over 400 cubes you need to start with a 6.0 block and stroke/bore it.

What is this truck used for ?

Well the catch on this truck is that I have to go through a title 42 to get the title. I mean, only $1000 so if I cant get the title I am going to still use the motor as a 383 or sell it and get a 6.0. If I do get the title the truck will be used as a weekend truck if you will. Not much dd at all. But if I cant get the title I am going to do a 240sx swap and use it for the same purpose. Is the hp/tq betten a 383 and 408 extremely different? I knoe the 408 will be more, but is it enough to go hrough the process of selling my motor and buying another?

Also, I would bore it to an ls1 bore and then use a 4.000" crank. Correct?

Yes...... that sounds right.

Here is how you come up with cubes:
Bore X bore X stroke x number of cylinders X 0.7854= cubic inches.

Technically you can get into the 39x range with either a 4.1 or 4.125 stroke, but those are not recommended.

I know this question is a long shot, but what does an 'average' 383 and 408 show in hp and tq. Very open question but im just looking for a rough estimate. N/A no boost or no2

power on each will be determined by the heads/intake/cam and exhaust.
The 408 would make more torque over the 383. Also using a 408 you can run a larger head. A 383 can produce around 600 at the crank with great aftermarket heads while a 408 can approach the 650 mark or so.
