Who's using LS7 Ti Rods, in a built engine?

How many on here have used Ti LS7 rods in your builds?

There's many issues with them, CrN coating wearing off leaving the big ends damaged.

However it sounds like Katech has used them in an off road race truck 650hp.

I have a used set, going to have the bushings installed, ARP bolts, thinking of having them Cryo treated if the big ends measure ok. Has anyone else used any other prep?

Hi Fraser,

In a collective sense, at V8 Supertourers New Zealand, we have some 30 standard internal's, LS7 engines in our competitor pool, and have had real issues with the Titanium rods big end cheeks touching and immediately galling, which I covered in detail in a couple of other threads. However once we understood what the issue was [insufficient clearance on the wrist pin, needs .0015-0018"] and addressed it we have never experienced another problem.

We also found that running very low viscosity, so called HP oil's, do not promote a sufficiently strong hydrodynamic lubricating film and as such, can allow the big-end cheeks to touch and immediately gall.

Cheers,

Mark.

I'm doing a Ti rod L92 stroker with custom pin-height Wiseco pistons. TSP spec'ed me a Callies crank, but after realizing I'd need to machine chamfers in the rod big-ends, I asked for a swap to an LS7 crank. Still waiting on the crank. I did ask them to check the clearances around the pin end...
