Default Lifter noise when cold after Morel swap

Hi,
Looking for some guidance as to whether i'm missing a trick or actually have a duff lifter or two and need to pull the heads again.

Recently swapped out my stock LS2 lifters for Morel link bars.
(AFR 225 heads, dual valve springs, LS9 cam, YT Ultralite rockers).

On a cold engine, after setting the preload (0.050" currently), she fires up and runs fine. After a minute of running I get lifter noise more obvious on one bank (as if the lifters are bleeding down). This stays until the engine is fully up to temp then everything's quiet again.

I've tried running various grades of oil from 5W-30 to 10W-60 with no effect.

Anything setup wise I could try (more preload) or does this sound like a bad lifter(s).

Help appreciated.

Have searched and not come up with anything obvious for a new set of lifters.

Thanks

Seeing this post i'm thinking more preload may be an answer and/or the morels are noisey generally until hot...

I still have never seen changing preload affect the noise of a lifter unless the plunger is at either extreme end of the available range.

Which Morels are they? Morel makes a lot of lifters. The lower end versions are no where near the higher end stuff.

Eric know what he is talking about: We've run .030 to .090 and like people are saying they tend to be quieter with the higher preload like 1 turn down which is about .080 preload.

My 5206's have always made noise. I have them at ~.050". I'm done with them. Going back to LS7 lifters. Expensive pieces of ****. Sometimes they will get quiet but then five minutes later they start ticking/clattering again.

They are 5206's

I'm going to try a higher preload, else it's looking like these just make noise when cold. Not great.

I had 5206's for a while and had 1 or 2 that always clattered (hot or cold) and I tried preload from .025" to .100". I hope you have better luck....

That really sucks that $600+ lifters are making noise like this..

I have had zero issues with my Johnson 2116s. They sound just like healthy LS7s.

Was thinking about those but my Morel experience has soured me on aftermarket lifters although I haven't heard anything bad about Johnson's. Never had a problem wti LS7's though so I'm going back.

Has anyone tried using a stud instead of
Bolts, like the gen 1 small block, use a locknut
To hold em on, and being able to have a little
adjustment?

I've heard of people spacing the dogbone or tray out with a washer on bigger lift cams.

Damn...I was planning on running Morel's in my new motor too smh. Looks like I'll be running the Johnson's instead now since they're around the same price.

I just did a hot cam and Morel 5315's and they are just as quiet as the stock ls1 lifters I pulled out. I used a dial indicator and 12" calipers to set the lifter preload. I ended up with .050-.058 preload with 7.325 pushrods. They were very loud for about the first 15 minutes, but once they pumped up they quieted right down and have stayed quiet even on cold starts.

Comp Cams makes a conversion kit for that. The kit they advertise with a PN has guideplates for 5/16" pushrods, but they do make guideplates for 3/8" as well.

One of my Morel hi rpm lifters just went flat this afternoon. TAP TAP ! This makes number three out of this set. I have to pull a friggin blower off too. I think I am going to use LS7's. This set of crap lifters has cost me a lot of money.

I used Morel drop ins, Martin Smallwood warned me of the noise generated by the link bar version.

When I re cam'd the spring pressure was increased, enough the LS7 lifters would bleed down. Loud enough when I first started the motor I shut it off

So off with the heads & installed the Morels, it is still a little nosier than I would like. Tolerable unlike the LS7 lifters.

If you would like to know the seat pressure's before & after I can dig that.

My LSX is soooo quiet now with the LS7's. And I can change them without yanking the heads if I need to whereas I couldn't with the Morel link bars and my heads. Much happier.
