Here is my Ls3 block. Not gouges in the cylinders but gouges in the lifter tray area and beside the main caps. Is this normal?? This is my first rebuild so just curious.
After the block is cast, they stand them upright and use a machine with a carbide endmill that has a pattern similar to a file to deburr the block. The block rotates around and this endmill knocks off all the casting flash. Pretty neat to watch. These marks are created from that machining process.
