Non-DOD valley with DOD lifters
Suppose you have a totally stock motor with DOD, then suppose you swap the valley cover for a non-DOD valley and turn off the DOD and DOD codes in the PCM.
(The non-DOD valley does have the o-rings to seal up the DOD oil holes and prevent oil pressure loss.)
The motor should function fine and run on all eight cylinders, correct?
Also, has anyone ever tried this?

Obviously you can turn off the DOD in the PCM without making any hardware changes, I am specifically wondering about how swapping the valley would affect the rest of the system aside from never being able to use DOD.

The commonality of DoD deletes isn't really a question. I can tell you how many cam installs / DoD deletes I've done over the last few years.
Again, I'm looking to hear from anyone who changed the valley, recal'ed, and didn't change anything else.
I agree that there shouldn't be an issure, just wonding who's tried it.

Been searching multiple sites for several days and sure would like to know the answer to this question.
Got a Yukon with 146k miles on it. Tired of the lifter tick. I turned off AFM/DOD almost a year ago, but it was too late, the damage is already done.
At this point, we are only planning on keeping the vehicle another 2 years/50k miles.
I just want it to last that long and dont want to overspend for dod delete and have to swap cam.
Can I replace all lifters with OEM lifters and change the valley cover to 4.8 valley cover and be done?

^^^Yes, you can.
I've been going almost three years with AFM turned off on my truck without any other hardware change made. I don't see how changing the valley and leaving the AFM lifters would affect anything since the solenoids that direct oil flow are turned off. You are simply eliminating those solenoids.

I know if I change to ls7 lifters, then I definitely need a cam. Just dont want to spend that time/money if I only need to get another 50k miles out of it. Hell, it may last as-is, I just want a little more piece of mind.
The yukon gets used for family duty most times. Sometimes I tow my Z06 to the racetrack. I sure would hate to lose a lifter on the way to the racetrack
