Default Clutch disaster

I don't know how this happened but I'm hopping for some help. Long stort short my brother need a new clutch and bought one from monster trans. We bought all new components. Clutch, pressure plate, flywheels, bearing, ect. Got everything together and bleed it with the engine off, seemed fine. I went to start the car for a test drive and it made a horrible noise the car was running for 3 sec and it shut it down. There is now a big hole in the engine block. My thought is it is unrelated but I don't know. can anyone think of how me screwing up the cutch install could have caused this?

The trans is fine. the hole is in the middle of the engine block on both sides. It is right next to the dip stick on the pass side and the drive side is cracked in the same place.

Hole in the block, I take it you threw a rod?

Longshot, but the only sequence of events I can see possibly relating:

Did you replace the pilot bearing, and if so how did you get the old one out? There are stories of people trying to use the old school method of packing paper or grease behind it to try to push it out instead of using a puller or slide hammer. Well, the LSx crank is hollow and has an oil plug on the flywheel end. Using those old methods can cause the plug to fall out, which I hear results in low oil pressure. Then you have an avenue for a spun bearing and eventually tossing a rod.

Shot in the dark...

Sounds like a couple rods tried to exit the block. I can't think of any way that a botched clutch install could cause that.

There has to be more to it than a 3 second run, you can drain all the oil out and run
it longer than that with no Ill effects. Maybe the engine was revved to the moon when
the clutch was slipping and shut off just before the crack opened up.

Did the car sit for a while waiting on a new clutch? If so was it outside?

Did it sit in the rain while it was down? Possible hydrolock only other explanation not listed here I can think of

Unless something got physically jammed into the rotating assembly, I don't see how the two could be related. Maybe a nut/bolt or something got in the way of the flywheel and jammed it? If everything was fastened down correctly though, this shouldn't happen.

There has to be more to this story. You don't just replace a clutch and then throw a rod immediately after start-up.

thank you for the reply's. The engine did hydro-lock with rain water. it leaked from the injector, the O-Ring was torn. I attached a photo of the damage.

So I bought a LQ4 long block from ATK. How would you go about tuning this new setup? breaking this motor in with the stock tune is not a good idea right, I don't want to do this a 2nd time. should I get an email tune or a dyno tune I'm on long island btw.
