Tell him MSD is starting to mold their coils in black now, to dissipate heat better. He might buy it, you never know! Unless he reads this forum....

Using the black MSD Street Fire LS2 style, they work fine. Had some Taylors fail.

Are they worth the money ? I have been reading no gains on the MSD coils over stock .

I am just wondering what you guys thoughts are with running a 12.4/1 on pup gas at my elevation ? We live at 7000' and will be on the track at 4800' on race gas . Thoughts ?

Default High Altitude

Hi, you will do well with this C.R. though it would help to know your Intake Duration.
As you know, I have stated a MUCH LARGER Intake Lobe is great for your BARO at 5K-7K feet.

Your BARO will be 65-70 KPA thus multiply the C.R. by that (104 KPA/65KPA ratio)

You will get the correct C.R. for the Altitude Compensation.

Not sure there. They're said to be a high output coil, could be snake oil or there could be something to be gained.

In your other post, everyone figured your compression at 11.4. What has changed to get you to 12.4? You said your builder was going to use a .040 head gasket instead of .051 but that won't make a full point jump in compression. Are you still using -3cc for your piston volume in your calculation?

Yes you are correct . We are going to run a 64cc head and the .040 gasket with -3cc dome .

I sure hope they are runners . What intake and heads are you using ?
Was a used engine that I picked up. When I looked into it, it had a bad comp cam in it that was eating the lifters and lobes. So that is why I am rebuilding it now.

The original cam was a 235/250 .621/595 116+5 so the new one is just a little different.

Also going with Johnson lifters 2110r instead of the LS7s this time.

Had stock LS3 823 heads and stock intake with NW 92 throttle body.

Original setup put down 501/473 to the wheels through 6 speed manual.

Default Cam Design at 8000 feet

Hi, your 236/248 may not be the best for you 8K foot operational area.

Lets start with the exhaust, the BARO is ONLY 2/3 pressure at 8K altitude.
The result is a LOWER exhaust pipe pressure, GOOD for more flow.
Thus LESS exhaust duration will work better as the altitude is increased.

Next is the same 2/3 BARO in the Intake Port with result of a NEED for MORE intake duration.

I do not know ALL the operating conditions you require for the "spec" of a camshaft.

SO JUST an EXAMPLE : 242/242 .627"/.557" L/C of ??? provided with more use information such as MAX RPM, manifold design, etc.

Car will be used mostly around 5800, to 4800' elevation. We do live at 7000'. Snowing as I right this lol. Also I pick up the short block and the most CR we are going to get is 12.26:1 with the 64 cc heads and 040 gaskets. Max rpm is at 6600 and intake is a Fast 102 with a ported 90 mm TB.

So you have 3cc's of relief volume, not 3cc of dome? A flat top?

So this happened over the weekend . I thought the TFS heads where setup to run the stock rockers .

They have to be shim up 3mm to get proper rocker arm geometry .

So now I guess I need to find some 3mm thick aluminium washers . big hammer replied to another post that Mast uses them .
