That's right but wait.... big hammer might want to leave the stop sign at 6k rpm and shift his motor at 7500 to the next red light.

People put them on the wrong engine eg. 4" bore stock stroke LS2, then cam them wrong and that's a perfect recipe for an underperforming setup.

Put then on the proper bore with a proper cam, and wind them up to where they really shine and then you got something special. But most people don't quite get that, so they do what I said in my first example then drive the car on the street at 2000rpm and complain it sucks thus the heads suck.

How much torque do you need for cruising?

As much as I can get, especially with a smaller stock stroke combo and a manual trans.

So you don't need that much? Fbodies stock had tall gears stock and not much low end torque. They seemed to get around fine

This is kinda interesting. I actually expected the ls2 to make a little more low end than the ls3 but it doesn't

Nevermind. I realize there's no point in arguing with you. I just know that I enjoyed cruising around in cars with a lot more low end torque than cars that didn't seem to come alive until 3500RPM. Maybe you're different. Maybe you like buzzing up to 5500RPM to pass a soccer mom in her minivan. Different strokes for different folks as they say.

So you build a race motor to drive around below 4000 rpm? Huh lol

It a was a simple question. Whether you have 325 ft\lbs down low or 300 for cruising I would think either would be fine.

Pretty sure a stock ls1 could pass a soccer mom in her mini van. Let alone a cammed rectangular motor

I don't know about you but most people wouldn't notice a difference between then two while cruising and other than from a standing start the LS3 heads are going to shine over stock cathedral ports everywhere else. I know when I really want to pass someone quickly I downshift and bring the revs up.....Right where the LS3 heads start making more power.
That being said I have one engine with cathedral ports (AFR's) and another with rectangular ports (321's) but both have roots style superchargers on top of them so torque down low is not an issue.

I have to disagree with you on that point. Anyone who drives their car and knows their car is going to be able to tell that difference.
