Default Low lift VVT cams

Hello all,
i was looking at VVT cams for a LY6 and was wondering if anyone knows if they make any that can be used with stock pushrods and ls6 springs like all the truck or low lift cams. i'm just surprised with the limitations of spring pressure on the cam phaser that's not the first style of cam that was made for the vvt system. just seems like a perfict fit for the vvt system like a 220/226 .550/.550 113lsa cam for my application.

any input would be appreciated

I would always measure and upgrade from stock pushrods regardless when swapping cams and/or springs. The base circle of the cam is usually smaller in diameter with aftermarket cores, so it is best to measure using the correct tool and order accordingly. At a minimum, I would use a 5/16" 0.80" wall pushrod.

With most smaller VVT cams, the ramp rates are more than likely going to be mild, so LS6 springs will work to a certain point. With the cam you listed, it is probably best to step up to a PAC 1218 beehive with a closed pressure of at least 130 lbs. I would contact the manufacturer of the cam and ask what they recommend for open/closed pressures.

Generally most cam manufactures for VVT cams recommend aftermarket springs, with the PAC 1218 being the most common for smaller lifts up to .550 lift, and BTR's or equivalent .660 springs for anything above .590 lift. Now this will depend on ramp rates as well but like mentioned above, most ramp rates for a VVT cam are mild.

Check with Texas Speed and Performance. They make cams for VVT that uses a phaser limiter to minimize valve interference. They don't have seem to have any trouble with them, even the higher lift ones.

thx for the responses, i guess i was looking more for the equivalent of texas speeds low lift cams or BTR truck cams but in VVT format to be able to use ls6 springs and be able to go at least 50,000 miles on the springs like there mild cams are able to. Not looking for max hp but rather less maintenance and more 90% DD and 10% drag race/ autocross/trackday in the summer months. good low end and only rev to 6,500-6,700rpm. just hoping i can do that with a VVT setup or i'll just go non VVT if i can't. The engines going in a datsun 280Z.
