Default 58x-24x change wheel or run convertor box?

I've purchased a low mile Ls2 shortblock with 58x wheel to install in my 01 SS. 40k on factory SBE.

Originally I intended to just buy and run the LPE convertor but I'm wondering if it makes more sense to tear it down and change the wheel to a 24x. Need to buy a timing set anyway so that's not a factor.

I'm a novice so I would get a reputable shop to do the work.

Reliability is my biggest concern. I want the car to be a good driver for some west coast touring.

TIA for your input

If the motor is out, I would have the wheel changed. I have read where people use the box and have a delay when the turn the key to when the engine starts to turn over. That would be kinda annoying.

I'm not crazy about the idea of tearing apart the factory assembly, especially knowing how one thing leads to another.

It might be worth it for the piece of mind and future reliability though.

Thanks guys.

Default Timing Lag Increase

Hi I too agree, change the TW to the 24xe.

My reason is concerned about the additional Timing Lag CAUSED by the Decode/Output of the position report to the PCM.
You ADD another processor INLINE with the Position of the Crankshaft measurement as the major requirement = More LAG.

Thanks Lance. I was hoping you would comment. Nice to have a technical reason behind the opinion.

My 99TA has an LPE 58x Box for the 24x PCM. It works very well. There is a whole 1-2 second delay cranking. Not worth taking a motor apart for in my opinion and experience. If the motor already has to come apart, sure change the wheel.

Not so much on a 2001 Camaro that NEEDS the Class 2 Serial Data network for the cluster to operate.

Change the Crank Reluctor!

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll go with the consensus and change the wheel.
