LS7 heads are NO DIFFERENT than any other cylinder head on the planet when it comes to the simple FACT that it's a tulip valve in a guild that rests on a seat.
The key to ANY successful cylinder head is the quality of the machine work and the appropriate materials being used for the application. THAT'S IT.
If you have a reputable machine shop "fix" the heads by installing new guides (material irrelevant at this point), they MUST cut the seats to maintain concentricity.
For factory LS7 castings, I'd only send them to WCCH. They are very well versed in the LS7 problems and their machine work is spot on. Richard knows what he is doing.
FYI - Guide material is typically chosen based on 1) temperature 2) valve material 3) longevity/service intervals
