LS3/L92 cam HELP
 
Looking for some input. I have a very low mileage L92 that I'm planning to put in my 2000 WS6 M6 (stock weight, 4:10 gears). This car will only get driven on weekends so not too concerned if it doesn't have perfect street manors.
Sending the 823 heads off to SPS Cylinder heads for porting, LS3 valves and BTR springs. I already have a TSP cam laying around that's 231/236, .640/.615 LSA 111, ICL 109.
Would you guys run this cam even tho it doesn't have a much split as most rectangle port cams. I would like to get cam in and measure PVC so I can have heads milled after porting. Or does someone have a cam they've used in a similar setup and confident with valve clearance? The L92 pistons do have the valve reliefs....

I would ask Gavin at SPS Cylinder Heads for his recommend cam for your planned set up. I think Gavin will have a better cam suggestion than the TSP 231/236 for the heads he developed.

I would be more concerned with your Static Compression Ratio than the lobe duration split. With a .040" head gasket, I would get AFR or Trick Flow heads milled to yield about 11.25:1 compression ratio.

But hell....that's just me.

I personally wouldn’t run that cam. Too much overlap for that combo and too much lift for a stock rocker IMO. It would run and probably sound good, but I think it would be worth it to sell it for something more appropriate.

We have a couple LS3 Specific cams that are designed to provide the piston to valve clearance you need. The Pro LS LS3 Stage 3 SUM-8710 is 230/242 113 + 3 .625/.605 and allow the heads to be milled about .020. The Stage 4 SUM-8711 is 234/247 113.5 + 3.5 .625/.605. Lift on those cams is designed to work with the stock rocker. That could be milled about .015 max. The Piston to valve clearance with .047 piston to head and .128 intake valve drop (5k mile LS3 mock up engine) is .081/.103 with the Stage 3 and .076/.096 with the Stage 4. We're at a fine line here, so we recommend checking P to V and degreeing in as necessary.
