Default LSA year identification help !

Hey folks - I recently bought a GM crate motor from EBay that was listed as a 2015. The block casting number is 12621766. This seems to be an older block? Did GM just use random castings on these as long as the block was correct? How else can I make sure that this is exactly what I paid for? Thank you in advance! The lid is a GM12622236 which appears to be a 2014. Again thanks

Shawn

Many times parts from the previous year will be used as long as they are the correct spec.

Can you take the oil pan off? LSA blocks will have piston oil squirters with the mains drilled and jets present. This would be a sure way to differentiate an LSA from LS3 block.

LSA cranks have 8 bolt rear flanges and LS9's have 9 bolts if anyone looks this thread up at a later time.
