Cam for 418 Attention cam gurus. I have a 418 stroker that is being put togather. Undecided on heads. Have 823's and 243's currently leaning towards 823's cause I figure the cubes and a proper cam can make up for lack of low end from the 823's. Feel free to comment on that. 3.73 gears, would be racing @rpms between 1500-4500 most of the time but occasionally 3500-6800? So all in all needs to make power from 1500-6800, or some where in there. It will probably be a smaller cam. I know cam grinders/manufacturers have an "operating rpm" but they seem all over the place from similar grind-grind. thanks for any reply |
823s for sure with that many c.i. |

This is very interesting. What kind of racing? Gear? Converter? The rest of the package and goals for drivability off idle? |

The 8719 would certainly do the job, but our Stage 3 truck 222//231 112 + 5 .550/.550 would be an absolute bruiser. We close the intake valve at 38 degrees, so it's going to make a lot of power in the low and midrange. We rate it at 2200-6500 with a 5.7 and your cubes are going to use up that air earlier. The seat timing is pretty tight so it behaves like a 218 cam but makes more power everywhere. |

Pay the fee that PAT.G charges ( roughly $50-$100) and get it custom. Pat G has stellar results with cam ing rect. port setups. Cam Motion can do a custom spec'd for free too. Either way, Cam Motion would be the cam supplier hands down. |
