Default Rumors, Lies, and Gossip: Morel Knockoffs

Does anyone know why hardly anyone stocks morel lifters anymore?
Here in Australia a lot of the major suppliers have stopped selling all morel lifters.
Even rebadged morels have stopped being sold too.
After speaking to two suppliers (One who stock morel branded lifters and one who stocks rebadged morels) they both seemed very irritated and almost to the point of hating on Morel while still being professional.
It is due to poor quality control and that they are made in China I am told...
Is there some widespread issue of failure going on that has not been publicly stated by Morel?

I have seen a rash of problems starting last year. We no longer use them, its either GM or Johnson for the hyd stuff.

Do you know the approximate manufacture dates when these failures were occurring?
What is happening to cause these failures?
Is it manufacturing defects or installer /setup error?

I was told by two suppliers that they no longer stock them due to them breaking and also not being reliable they tell me.
One supplier sells rebadged morels and the other sells the morel branded version.
One supplier even said they are made in China now which is one of the reasons quality has gone down.
However I am not sure if there is any credibility to this statement.
I contacted a third seller and they claim they have never had issues with them.
The only known issues you can have is if you use oil that is too thick or if the wrong preload is set on the lifters.
The morels have very right clearances.
Who knows what to believe

We ran them with success for a long time. They changed the part numbers on some of the hyd lifters and that is when we started having problems. All of them where just crazy noisy to start. Then we had some that would leak down so bad when they sat that the pushrod would fall out of the rocker cup! Very few would have a catastrophic failure though. Anyhow they cost us more time and money in headaches then a sane person could handle.

I suggest asking Chris Straub aka Cstraub on LS1tech has been a key (maybe the key) Morel Distributor for many years.

Several years ago there was some minor issue or miscommunication regarding a Morel lifter that started online and Chris sorted it out before the story became drama.

This. The older drop in lifters had swagged roller pins which under certain conditions would sometimes loosen, although its rare. The modern versions use a line lock keeper on the roller pin end to hold the roller. Other than that....?

The problem in your case (bortous), maybe due to the changing policy of American trade and your country's reaction to it.

Sad that there has been a quality issue with Morel, for years they were THE standard. I used them on my old turbo LS1 and never had a single issue

Here is the company that makes Morel lifters. Maybe a better term would be parent company?

Well WTF, does this mean they aren't made in the US?
I just ordered some yesterday, that was a major requirement for me.

Exactly this! Years without issue on old version and I recommended them. Then multiple sets of the newer lifters started failing, some right off the bat, others would tag the rev limiter once and fail, others fail just cruising down the road, just odd. Then the vendor blamed it on bad setup despite giving them specs, bad oil despite it being brand new quality oil, etc, basically anything to not take the blame and only offered to sell an individual lifter, gee thanks! Which I did a few times but that got old quick as you stated.

Got sick of pulling heads to replace lifters and being treated like a newb by the vendor so swapped to Johnson no issues since, shocker!
