What's the prognosis doc? Just got in a freshly pulled L92 out of a wrecked 07 Escalade, plan is to do a top down reseal with LS3 accessories, intake, CHE trunnion upgrade exc., and throw it into my project. Looked like a great buy, 90K miles, and the price was right. But after lifting up the skirt, it is now what appears to be 90k miles of a single oil change. Is it even worth bothering with this engine? Not sure how much neglect LS engines can take in this state when put into a race environment, even after doing a whole cleanup. On the bright side, the water passages look absolutely spotless... https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...7e6a0841ca.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...65addc7adc.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...ad92a04bd4.jpg |

Oh please, that's not even that bad; just clean out what you can and run it. Also, how much was it? I'm doing a compression test tomorrow once the starter bolts come in. |
I would likely go a bit over kill and pull the heads and have them hot tanked, and inspected.. I'm really big on having valves and surfaces inspected when heads are off or if I'm dealing with an unknown motor. Then I'd pull a couple caps off the bottom end and inspect the lower end bearings and do a new pickup tube o ring. Inspect the cross hatch in the cylinders. If all looks good spray it down real good with brake clean and re assemble it. I'd really want the crud out though so it doesn't find it's way to the pickup tube screen and clog it. Seen that many times. |
