I have a set of rods with 9021S or 90215 on the cap.

Then I was looking at the rod bolts noticed that it was an ARP 8740 SCAT-33. Does the Scat indicate it is a Scat rod? I do know it is a cast rod or a forged powdered metal.

So much for a stock short block. Found out the pistons are Speed Pro hypereutectic, 3.79" made for a 3.799" bore.

That is a scat pro series I beam. With a stock replacement piston its likely a 6.100 with a .944 pin
2-ICR6100-944 if its floating
2-ICR6100-944P if its press fit

Thanks.

Do you have any idea if these guys are for stock power level only or could they handle 700 fly wheel hp? I initial thoughts are no and that should just get forged pistons and rods, along with the stock crank and I should be ok. I was initially going to put my build into a 76 vette, but my father in law wants to keep the 350 that's in it and he has an El Camino. I forget what year, an early 70's. So I don't need lots of power, but 500 to 600 whp will suffice. I do plan on using forced induction to get there.

Edit: I just checked out these rods and it turns out that they are made from forged 4340 steel. I am going to have my machine shop man check them out and see if I can reuse them. I think they will hold up to the power I am looking for.

As you found they are a 4340 forged rod. I only found 1 website that says they are rated up to 700 HP with the 7/16 8740 rod bolts.

I don't have any experience with these so couldn't comment on them. Likely the OE style replacement piston would fail before the rod in this case.

The biggest problem is that most aftermarket forged pistons are designed for a 6.125 rod with a .927 pin.
There are a few options, just not many for a 6.100 with a .944 pin

Thank you. The OE styles replacement pistons are being replaced, I will definitely be going forged. I couldn't use them anyway as the block needs to be bore and open up 3.810". Not 100% sure about the final bore size would be, hopefully I don't have to bore too much of the sleeves. The good thing is, I have no time table as I am doing this to satisfy my morbid desire to rebuild an engine and an LS engine is just the right challenge for me. I will definitely talk to Summit and other places and see what I can find out.
