Oil Pressure Sensor reads false low
2006 LS2 from a GTO running on an E38 computer
Using HP Tuners Scanner, once the engine gets up to full temp it keeps showing me oil pressures below 10psi at idle, sometimes it shows 0 psi. So I got my hands on a mechanical oil pressure gauge and connected it immediately after the oil filter.
Starting the engine cold, both sensors read about the same. But as the oil warms up the electronic sensor starts dropping off and ultimately reads about half what the mechanical gauge is telling me. I ran the engine at 2,000 RPM for 3-4 minutes in the garage to get some heat in the oil. Mechanical gauge started at 40 psi and ended up around 35 psi and electronic was reading 20 to high 10s psi. After that the mechanical gauge was bouncing from 15-20 psi, and the electronic was reading 5-10 psi.
Before I start replacing sensors and wiring, is there anything else that could be causing this discrepancy? It's a front sump pan, so the oil has to go from the mechanical sensor, down the transfer pipe to the back of the block, up the block, and to the valley cover and the electronic sensor. Ideas?
