Hi CK
The Knock sensor go on the side of the block, just like the older engines had it. I don't have a picture but somebody might.

I still can't figure out where the 2nd relocated sensor goes. I know that I bought 2 extenders for the wiring harness, just don't see another sensor besides the cam sensor that moved to the front cover that needs extending.

Ok, I got the valve covers on. I torqued them to 10 ft/lbs cause I couldn't find any info on how tight to go.

Also got the fuel rail on and the old stock injectors on. I have a set of 42# SVO's coming but I am going to use the stock ones just to get the car started and get it to where ever I go to get it tuned. I figure that since I am going to have codes up the *** due to the AIR and EGR being removed, I should maybe leave the stock injectors so that the stock fuel tables are atleast close. Not gonna get on it until I get her all broken in and get the new injectors dialed in.

Next obstacle. This is a 98 Z28 so I had the old valve covers ( w/ the perimeter bolts ) with the old ignition setup. I picked up a set of new valve covers on e-bay for $90.00 that some guy took of a brand new crate motor. I bought a couple of the new style mounting brackets for the coils pictured here. My question is, should I buy a new harness or just use the one pictured here and twist it up the best that I can?

Hi CK,
there are 2 sensors, one each side of the block - there must be tapped holes. Use your wire harness (extension)to figure out the location. You know is has to plug into the old harness, run the harness on both sides. I hope this helps

You can see where we retrofitted the LS1 knock sensors on the side of our LS7. Had to tap out the existing hole with a 10x1.5 if I remember correctly..

here's a pic:

I also have the 98 and long ago went to the later valve covers. I recall changing the hardware but also recall that the coils and harness hooked right up to the brackets with no problem.

I had to put both LS1 knock sensors in the passenger side of the block since my Long Tubes got in the way of the sensor on the drivers side. Because of that I had to drill and tap one of the untapped bosses on that side. Sensors work fine in the block.

If you would like to go ahead and put in the 42#rs let me know. I can email you my 402 tune. Our cams are not that different and I have 40# injectors.

Should be pretty close. You will simply need to have LS1 Edit for your car to load it. In fact I have EFILive also but simply haven't used it since I got it last month. So if you have a bud with that let me know and I can read my puter with it and email that file also.

Would it be possible for you to post a picture on here of yours so that I can see the routing of the harness wires. I want it to look semi-clean.

I may have to take you up on this. I have been fighting getting LS1Edit in favor of the newer and prettier HP Tuner software. Either way. I do know someone w/ LS1Edit and may just have him do it for me. You have to buy a license for the vin, right?

Ok, so the whole sensor relocation situation has been burning me. I callep SLP since it is their block and I asked about the knock sensor relocation. They said that you dont use the knock sensors and you just delete them in the PCM. Is this correct?

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get all the torque specs for the rebuild? I've been having trouble finding some of the specs for odd stuff (ground straps, rear cover.....) Did you find a detailed walkthru or just go right from "how to build ls1's" for step by step stuff?

It is simply like the stock 2000 and up. The harness lays next to the intake and plugs into the coils. The only difference is the coils are on a support vs being bolted directly to the covers.

On your Knock Sensors. Use them (or at least one). Why not? they work wonderfully in the block. The overriding issue is what clearance do your headers give you to put them. Again we put both of the sensors on the passenger side just cause it had better clearance and that made it easier to extend the harness.
