Dampner usually included in a long block? I wanted to know what engine parts are considered part of the "long block"? I bought a long block from a guy who didnt include the dampner or the rocker arms. I know the rocker arms are part of the long block but now I have to get them installed and calibrated...how much would it cost me to have them installed on a block already out of the car? I was told by the seller that the stock LS2 blocks are balanced at the crank and the dampner is not required to balance the engine and is not part of the long block.... how true is this? Will my LS1 dampner work on this LS2?
Yes you can use any crank pulley that will work with your accessory application. The rotating assembly is internally balanced as the seller stated, and didn't a crank pulley for balancing. You should be able to put the rocker arms on yourself. Just need a torque wrench set to 22 ft-lb. It really will depend on what lifters, heads, cam and pushrods you're using. The stock lifter use 1.5-2 turns for preload. Most aftermarket use .25-.50 turns for preload. If your pieces are mostly stock (stock unmilled or clean up mill heads, and 7.4 pushrods) you should be good just torqueing down to 22 ft-lb. Shouldn't cost much to have it done by a pro if you are not comfortable working on it.
