Default L92 head gaskets

Does anyone offer head gaskets for the L92 yet? If not, are GM head gaskets ok for a drag race engine? The block has a 4.065" factory bore, but won't have a final bore size until honed.

Actually they are quite a bit different and from a different supplier. They are a 5 layer steel with inverted bossing. This means the outside of the gasket is now smooth and the bossing is in the second outside layers. Not sure I like if I like it or not yet

I checked a few sponsors and they closest thing I came across was Cometic, .040" thickness, 4.060" bore.

You can't run a 4.06" bore gasket on a 4.065" bore. I'm pretty sure they make a 4.08" bore gasket which would work fine for you application. Would you just call a sponsor already and have them build it for you? LME perhaps?

My shortblock is in the process of getting built. I was wondering what options I had as far as head gaskets since the L92 block has an odd bore.

Are Cometic gaskets the common/most popular brand of head gaskets used around here or in general? This is my first time to go this far into a build, especially motor wise. Are Cometic better than stock and if so, how?

they make MLS similar to stock and copper gaskets. unless you are doing FI or nitrous I wouldn't worry too much about it. its nice to get the quench you want by selecting the right thickness though.

Cometic is the most popular LS1 brand because they offer you just about any size or thickness you want. No other gasket company offers what Cometic does, and they are a great gasket as long as you have a "true" surface for them to mount to. If your deck or head is more than .001-.002" out, you will probablly get a leak.

The stock mls gaskets are basically nearly the same as a cometic but the normal shelf Cometick is a lil over 4.100 bore and .051 thick so it will work too depending on the deck that you end up with. It would be nice to use a GM gasket though as they are usually much cheaper.

V6 Bird, you know what little troll, **** you! I don't know what your problem is, but stay the **** off my threads if you can't provide any help. I understand you've been helpful in the past, but whatever crawled up your *** and died, sorry. Don't take it out on me that you went off on some head porter last week and you got hammered for it, so you try to redeem yourself by trying to make me look like a fool. I have questions. This is a ******* forum board, which include, claims, findings, questions, discussions, etc.

Now back to my thread...

Thanks everyone for your help. I really appreciate it. I'll have my engine builder get with Cometic and set something up.

Um..GM MLS are way better then cometics. no matter how many times Cometic redesigns them becasue of issues.

RUn the GM MLS 7.0 gaskets if your running a 4.060+ bore if you want somehting durable. If your running something smaller run the 6.0L truck
The 6.0L truck can be run on the L92s but does slightly shroud the head a wisker

So it doesn't matter if the bore size on the gasket is bigger than the bore size on the block?

Generally speaking, not really although keep in might we are not trying to make a low emmisions compliant powerplant . Larger bore is typically the least of concerns, GMs MLS's are always larger than the bore. Just take a look at the 5.7 and 6.0L gaskets.

Will stock LS2 MLS gaskets be ok for the L92 heads on an LS2?
