Default Mavns SOM turbo build Round 2 . MADE POWER ON THE DYNO, backed it up on the track !

Round 2 with my guys at @Summitracing

Goal:
Reliable 1200+ Rwhp out of a 4 bolt aluminum 5.3

Going to go in my SOM SS with a VS racing 88/103 turbo
Of course Cesar Enriquez will be doing the tuning

Execution:
Aluminum gen 4 5.3 stock block, not filling the block or anything.
Summit pistons/rods
Summit stage 2 turbo cam
Either Athena, MLX or Ls9 gaskets - were still working this out
Summit brand head studs

My current 706 heads I have on my Sbe 5.3 that's in the car .

Of anyone has any Ideas/opinions please comment them. If theres anything else you want to see us do? Lmk!

Time line:
6 months or less ???? Maybe if I can come up with the money

Can we do it?
Like Bob the builder says... Yes we can!

Pickup up a beautiful spun rod bearing aluminum 5.3 for cheap. Summit and I have been scheming over a 1200 wheel , stock aluminum block, stock crank motor thats reliable for a few weeks .

Heres some pics of what i have so far

Started pulling it apart. Cyl 1 rod bearing took a ****

You can see the rod..3rd from bottom on left that got hot

Some scotch brite and degreaser goes a long way!

Won’t this will lift a head with the amount of boost you need to hit 1200whp...

Just use those ARP 625 head studs and some good gaskets and machining should be able to hold the heads down.

I don't know how capable the Summit stuff is but 1200 should be fairly easy to achieve. I'll be doing the same thing with my new setup, since I blew my SBE. Maxing out my billet 76 should land me a smidge over 1200whp.

On a perfect tune the crankshaft will live a long time at the 1000rwhp level.... at the 1200rwhp level that window will get smaller..... lifting the heads will be your biggest issue... Don't be aggressive with timing

I would find out who makes the pistons for Summit.... and the rods. They certainly aren't making them.

I've had good luck with Molnar, Compstar etc which are all forged overseas.... (Molnar source a better grade steel). Many people have also had great success with the Texas Speed HD rods they sell. Pretty much any rod under $900/set will be forged overseas and hopefully finished in the USA.

If you buy all Summit parts I'd be curious how they work out!

GNX7, you need to see the Saenz LS rods I just saw a couple days ago. Quality blows everybody short of Carrillo away. They just started w/ LS parts so not even on the website yet. DM me, will send a part # if you want it. Honestly, I am tired of the China crap. Yeah, it sorta works, but I just want USA stuff in my USA motor. So hard? Good luck w/ the build, it'll make the power for sure, just pay attention to details and pick the right tuner. Details matter at that level.

For anything under 1500rwhp I have been using Molnar parts which are a great bang for the buck.... Saenz does make great parts

Summit,

I see that you recommend tool steel pin upgrades but I don't see them on your website. Also why not offer these rotator kits as balanced and ready to go?

Hello, yes at 1000whp of anything with a 300 shot or greater..it's a good idea to upgrade the pins. The pins have been operated far beyond that, but we think it's good insurance for the percentage of people that will push that hard. A WIS-S718 .200 wall 9310 alloy pin is a good choice and we have them listed in the suggested items tab.

The kits aren't balanced *yet* and that's something we're looking into. You will also need to file the rings.

I'll keep an eye on this. I'm going to try a similar goal as well, and was debating on the summit rods/pistons.
I would avoid the LS9 gaskets. The stock 5.3 LC9 gaskets have held up to this power level before. The smaller gasket bore gives more sealing area around the cylinders. The LS9 gaskets are a great gasket, but don't give the surface area that the smaller bore gaskets do.

Which billet 76? Mine maxed out quite a bit below that.

FI s476 T4 96mm exhaust 1.10A/R. It's the latest wheel FI offers. Made 1050whp at 24.5psi through a manual TR6060.

Yep, I've used the Wiseco pins before as they are included in the BTR Wiseco boost piston kit, which by the time you buy your pistons, rings, and the upgraded pins yours end up costing more then their Wiseco option (https://www.briantooleyracing.com/cu...p-pistons.html). I would think balancing the assembly would make your package look more appealing as I have the tools to file rings in the garage, but not to balance a rotator. If end user has to go out and get the rotator balanced after delivery, then they may as well buy the cheapest options online that meet their needs. That said I'm intrigued by your options and looking forward to what happens, I'm already using some Summit parts in my current engine and so far so good.
