I'm floating the hell out of my valves Can somebody point me to someone who can work out a good valve train set up for me? Seems like if you work on the car yourself you don't get much help from some of the vendors. I'm getting a bunch of valve float over 6400. ET heads 403 .236/.242 Stock lifters I have a lifter that sounds a bit cooked so I'm going to replace those as well. |
What springs are you running? The TSP springs work fine in Sams silver car shimmed to .050 of coil bind. Phil |
They are the upgraded ETP spings. I think they are Comp 977 but I have to pull the serial number off the head and call ET. I'd love to be able to throw a .040" shim in there, lighten up the push rods, use some GM race lifters and call it good. |
You need to get them 977s out of there. |
The 977s have shown lots of valve float. Put some AFR 8019s or Patriot Extreme Duals in there. |

How do you know when you are getting valve float? |
In most cases you can feel it, but with my car it felt fine. On the dyno the power just fell off at 6400 and the dyno graph was wiggling all over the place. Since I have the infamous ET heads and crappy springs, I'm attributing it to float. |
