I have an engine noise, I'm thinking push rods

So today I washed my car and started it up. I let it warm up and gave it a rev and this nasty sound comes with the rev. It doesn't make the noise until its revved. I'm thinking its a bent push rod. It's just funny, it started out of no where. It sounds like metal clapping, and its loudest at 2-3k. It may be a loose rocker arm some how. Anyone know where I can get a good write up for replacing push rods? I've done all of my other mods, but I've never done any internal work on a motor.

About 6 months ago it was overheated. It was making a faint noise but I never thought anything about it.

Do yourself a favor and don't crank it again until you have disassembled it. Every crank means more damage.

I have another car, its not a big deal. How about this being a lifter? It sat for about two weeks not being started.

It's not a bottom end knock. The noise is only introduced once the rpms are over 1500. It is louder between 2-3k rpms.

broken valve spring would be tops oin the list to investigate

I had a lifter go late last year. You could hear it at idle slightly, but the engine also had a slight misfire at idle. I was thinking rocker arm too, but then I cranked the car again and it let loose. The noise was worse as the RPM climbed. Cost me the block & cam. (The lifter bore was trashed)

Are there any write ups for replacing the lifters and push rods? The search only seems to bring up posts from 3 years ago and nothing recent.

How the hell did this end up in this section? Its supposed to be in ls1 internal section. Can a mod move this for me please

Son of a bitch i hope its not a lifter. Hopefully I pop the valve cover off to see a broken spring or push rod. It sucks that I will be happy to see something broken, because i definately cannot remove the damn heads.

So all I have to do is torque the rocker arms to 22 lb/ft? You can do this with the cylinder in any position?

Springs/rockers/rods can all be taken care of under the valve cover.

Pretty easy to get to check out. unplug your sparkplugs/ coil packs. Remove coil packs from valve cover. unplug PVC if on the leftside,Remove valve cover, Take a good look at all the springs/rockers and look for consistancy. If one is outta place that probably the one. If it's a bent road you might not be able to tell unless you remove the rocker and pull out the rod. So if it's not the springs just start taking rockers off and pulling the rods and replace. when you reinstall the rocker tq to 22lbs or until the rocker sits flush and is tight/secure. Removal of the rocker arm will not cause the valve to drop so cylinder position does not matter.
