L 92's Bare or Complete

Has anyone purchased the l92's bare and assembled them yourself?
I would like to go with the Comp Cam beehive spring so I can get the additional lift if I want it later. Complete they are only good up to .510 . The upgraded l92's are an extra buck. Is it worth doing your own or buying the upgraded ones. Thanks

I did my own with dual springs and stainless valves from FTI. OE rocker arms. cost me ~$1200.

i did my own,

$203 x 2=($406) each bare L92 heads
$150 gm valves/seals/retainers/keepers
$175 PAC racing 1218 springs
$7 x 8=($56) stock intake rockers
$12 x 2=($24) L92 rocker stands
-------
$811 total,, cant beat that for a pair of complete heads that flow what these do

How much lift are you running with your combo? Do you know if the stock rockers will work using .600" lift? Where did you get the valves from? Nobody has stainless valves to fit these heads listed in a parts catalog...

.65x/.64x on the lift. FTI custom grind. Valves are Ferrea (sp?) from FTI as well. And Ive seen nothing to suggest that the stock rockers cant handle that lift, either in articles, or during mock up. I'm still looking for a set of L92/Ls3 roller tips.

Yella Terra makes a full roller rocker set, especially for the L92 head. It's a semi-shaft mount rocker system, non-adjustable type, bolt-on replacement deal. This sucks because I really want to run a solid roller...but i'm NOT about to spend extra $$$.

I forgot to ask what material/type are the valves made from (stainless, titanium, stock, sodium filled, hollow, etc...)?

you left out hardend spring bases and valve seals,

the L92 valve seals/seats will leave you with a 1.750 installed height.

still great option, just a little bit of porting really fix em up.

actually mine came out to 1.78" installed height with the stock L92 seals in place after lapping the valves to the heads, so im only .020" tighter than if i set them up at 1.800", all i know is these heads really woke up this 6.0 from 4000rpm up

i'm a newbie when it comes to picking valves springs, can someone clue me in on what install height is, also i was told to get patroit gold valve springs. any opinions

i'm gonna run stock l92 valves, and my cam is undecided, still doing research. trying to get 500hp

if your lift is less than .600 id go with the pac racing 1218 these are the original makers of the com cams 918 springs before comp cams switched maufactures and started getting them from mexico, then the 918's started having major issues

i have an extra set of pac-1218's new in the box, id sell em for $140 shipped, they are $183 plus shipping new

i have the pac 1218's on my L92 heads and they are working great
