Default Oil Pump Pressure Relief Valve

I've just removed a front hump sump from a new LS2 crate engine for the fitting of a new rear hump sump, but found the new sump does not have an oil pump pressure relief valve.

The front hump sump, GM p/no. 12599397, has a provision cast into the sump for the valve mounting.
The rear hump sump, GM p/no. 12581810, is listed for the Corvette LS2 engine. The new sump fits perfectly but there is not even a casting provision for the valve.

Has anybody found this before and how important is it to use an oil pressure relief valve.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

I'm almost 100% postive the pressure relief is in the pump itself. There's a plug on the pump, opposite the inlet I believe, which holds the spring and poppet.

BTW, what is all this front/rear hump sump stuff?

Sorry we mostly call it a Sump but it seems you guys call it an Oil Pan.

The GTO uses a front oil pan compared to some other models using a rear pan.
I will remove the pan and see if my GTO LS2 oil pump has a blank installed where the pressure relief valve would normally be located.
Looks like the GTO may use a remote pressure relief valve in the pan. Fingers crossed the valve can be relocated back to its original position.

GTO oil pan.

Corvette oil pan.
