No tach signal at computer, ls1 to ls2 swap
As the title states... I am starting up my new ls2 block (02 ls1 computer) and my tuner says that he is not seeing a tach signal at the computer. I was thinking crank position sensor. Weird thing is that he said he saw the tach in the car move, but not in EFI live.
I have searched and have not seen anything where the computer DOES NOT see the signal and the gauge does...
It is a standard swap from an ls1 to the ls2 block. Crank has the correct 24x reluctor wheel, so that should not be the issue. Using a new Racetronix extension harness for the cam position sensor. The car ran fine last year with the ls1 in it. All wiring has been reused for this new engine. Engine is in an RX7.
Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

If your tach is working...The ECM is producing a signal. I ran into a problem on my car, and it ended up being a cracked wire...The tach still worked, but the shift light would work randomly

On the cam sensor pigtail try swapping the outer two wires (three wire connector). Swap Pin A to Pin C, and the wire from Pin C to Pin A. Thats a common problem with extension harnesses for LS2 swaps.

LS2 cam extension harnesses are "crossover" when compared to LS1.
The PCM can monitor RPM by both Crank and Cam sensor methods...but probably one of the displays you're missing relies on the Cam sensor signal.

Thanks for the responses back guys... I will try the cam sensor wires. My tuner told me that the cam sensor did not have anything to do with the RPM signal.
Anyone know where I can get the pinouts for an 02 ls1 computer? I want to try and check the wires to make sure nothing got pinched during reinstallation.

We had to repin the extension harness on my ls1 to ls2 swap for my z06. They were backwards as well. There was a batch of wiring harness extensions for ls2 swaps that were pinned incorrectly.

The car will still run, but it will be harder to start. Usually will take extended cranking, or you'll have to crank it, turn the key off, crank it again, for it to fire up. But always, you'll loose the tach signal.

I have to swap the wires on the connector all the time. What really bothers me is why they don't just fix the damn harness. I've started using the Racetronics extensions of late and have had no issues at all.
If the car looses a cam sensor it will not have a tack signal. Had a car last week that pinched the wires when he was changing the alternator out and it had no tach and would not start.

Tell him hes full o ****. You loose the cam sensor, you loose the tach. Been there, seen that.

Exactly how i figured out my harness was one of the bad ones. It did that exact same thing.

Thanks for the help guys! Switched out the cam sensor wires and checked the crank position sensor while I was at it. Everything looked like it was good to go and she fired right up after I fixed some fuel leaks.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

[How long would it take the seller to check each cam extension harness with a circuit tester?]
