Default Piston/Valve clearance w/ L92 heads

I posted this in the newbie section but I don't think it got enough views so I thought I would try here...

Newie question .... I am considering purchasing a fellow board members 408 crank/rods/pistons for my 6.0 block. His pistons were cut for ETP 265 heads. I had planned on running L92 CNC'd heads with the build because of the good price/high flow. I think after doing some research that ETP heads have a 11* valve angle and L92's have a 15* valve angle - so they don't match. So the question is can these pistons work w/ the L92 heads despite the difference in applications. What would I need to make these work as is? The set is already balanced but could the piston tops be re-machined (without re-balancing) Thanks.

Don't really know how much they are milled but he was running about 13.5:1 compression with his ETP heads and a 50cc chamber. Does this help give any idea of how much they are milled. I think I can get chamber size options from 72-67cc on the L92 heads from TS and would like to run about 11:1. This is about all I know about the combo he is selling. Thanks.

Must be running a smaller cam then me. My .640 lift cam PTV was too close. They're going to Diamond to get flycut for the L92 heads as we speak. Same pistons as yours.

Hmmh,a .604 lift on the intake valve w/ stock head gasket,L92 heads, ended up w/ .040 PTV clearance. I'm flycutting the pistons and going to .650 ish lift.

Thanks for all of the info. To complicate things further the L92 valves are larger than the ETP head valves. So, lets assume I had totaly flat headed pistons, stock gasket, stock L92 heads... What would I need to look for in a cam to make this combo work? If someone knows this then even if the pistons are fly cut to the wrong size valves/angle it wouldn't matter. I suppose buying it, putting it together, and measuring it is the only way to find out unless someone is running this combination.

One more question: If I had to have the piston tops re-milled for L-92's and they took the same amount off each piston top it should maintain balance - correct? Can a machine shop be that accurate (remember I am a newb learning)?

Determining deck height would have to be after it is together I suppose. The crank is a 4" stroke for a 408 w/ 6.125" rods and diamond flat-top pistons. I think I just need to put the thing together and work through any problems as I go. Thanks for all the help.

A lot is going to depend on the overlap on your cam. Overlap more than lift is your enemy here.

My $.02

Um, you can send your pistons back to Diamond and get them flycut for L92s for $85. That's what I'm doing to mine.
