Default [VR] 2016 CTS-V Research and Development - Stage III Package + E85

Earlier this year, we picked up our 2016 CTS-V from Dustin at Sewell Cadillac in Dallas, TX after searching for a white car with the correct options for quite a while. Dustin is a hardcore Cadillac enthusiast, and we had an excellent experience dealing with him and the Sewell team all the way to delivery where we broke in the new platform on the 800+ mile trip back home. After having quite a bit of seat time in the C7 Z06 prior, we knew what to expect from the powertrain, but were blown away by the comfort and styling of the car itself. This is truly the ultimate balance in luxury and performance, and Cadillac nailed it on every level.

After getting the car home, we made the car ours in typical Vengeance fashion with a big smokey burnout on the fresh Michelin tires!



The dyno would be our next stop where we strapped down the car for a baseline pull, and immediately started on tweaking the stock ECU calibration. The result was a gain of 44rwhp without any hard parts being touched on the car. We were also able to greatly improve shifting through the 8-speed automatic transmission, and rid most of the "dead pedal" from the factory for a much crisper throttle response.

After this, it was time to start throwing on the modifications. With in one week, we had our Vengeance Racing 2.38" upper pulley kit installed, a custom fabricated cold air intake system made here in-house, as well as a set of American Racing longtube headers with their 3" off-road x-pipe. The exhaust sound was improved tremendously, as well as a substantial increase in power.








With the 1/2 mile racing season fast approaching, we knew that this would not be enough to break the 150mph mark that we had been shooting for while still keeping the car extremely streetable. Our next round of modifications would include an E85 flex fuel sensor kit, Vengeance Racing Stage II camshaft with the 32% fuel lobe upgrade, and an Innovators West lower balancer using a 9.1" ring. This would not only give us the signature lope at idle from the camshaft, but also keep driveability extremely nice with the stock converter, and give us a nice increase in power. Once tuning was complete after installation, we did find that roughly 50% E85 was the most that the OEM fuel system was able to handle at this power level without the assistance of methanol injection or a larger auxiliary fuel system. However, the gain was still extremely impressive with this very mild camshaft.







In the end, we surpassed our goal at the Virginia 1/2 mile event on May 1st with a best of 153mph with a DA of over 8,000 and 93 octane fuel! Most every supercharged car was down 2-3psi on boost in these conditions with the horrible conditions, but the car performed flawlessly and made the 8 hour trip each way without an issue. With these parts in place, the car drives close to stock on the highway, has a very nice growl at idle, and performs better than what we were seeing 700+rwhp Gen II CTS-V's doing in the same conditions at the 1/2 mile. We will be bringing this car to the upcoming Clayton, GA race on May 14th and 15th where we hope to break the 155mph barrier with much better weather conditions!

153mph is moving for a big heavy 4 door in the 1/2 mile. Congrats!!!

Why does the dyno graph after the cam look so wierd like valvetrain issues? It peaks super early compared to the old setup.
