Default Is high compression killing my starter?

Ok, so when I got my car running it had a stock starter on it. Worked fine for a couple months then took a **** on me. I got another stock starter, a used one from a friend, and it crapped out on me after only 2 days. I'm only running a built 383 with 11:1 compression. I plan on buying a Powermaster starter soon but was just curious if maybe the stock starter was just not strong enough to handle cranking the engine? I've got a brand new battery rated at 700 cold cranking amps. Would more cranking amps prolong stock starter life possibly?

Try using a jumper cable and go from the negative terminal to the engine block. I had a bad ground that caused slow cranking and no cranking when hot. I was running 11.9:1 with a stock starter.
