2014 4.3 V6 - It's a clean sheet design

So, the 2014 4.3 is a clean sheet design. I think it's going to be a rather inconspicuous engine. We get a form factor that's possibly 4.4" shorter than a gen 4, and it's a lighter engine to begin with and we get 75% of the displacement capacity.

Now that it's on gen 5 technology, it should get gen 4 performance traits at a bare minimum. Just by scaling displacement from gen 4, we get the below calculation

(4.3/6.2)*430 = 298hp.

And that's using the LS3 as a baseline.

If it's more like the 5.3, we get (4.3/5.3)*315 = 255hp.

Even from a modding standpoint, it's tasty. A 4" stroke and a hone to 4.07" bore gives us 312 cubes. Drill the intake for MPFI injectors and neuter the direct injection, presto, lightweight engine to toss into a caterham.

Look at the CT 525 crate motor. If we scale off that HP/liter basis, we're looking at 435 hp from a stroker, or 357hp on a 4.3 basis.

Bolt up a TKO-600 and you've got to be 100+ pounds lighter than a Gen 4+ t-56 combo.

I would expect alot more hp than that given that the current DI 3.6 V6 in the Camaro is pushing what like 316hp. With a clean design and more cubes it could theoretically push mid 300s.

I'd be curious to see how they place that low-mid 300s hp engine compared to the 5.3 and 6.2.

Unless I misread something, this engine is based on the new LT1 architecture which has a lot of LS DNA. i seriously doubt there will be a 100ln difference between the two.

I would certainly hope it has 300 HP. Honda has had a 300HP V6 that has existed in one form or another for over a dozen years or so. I am interested, MY latest interest has been off road buggies, and HP for a given engine weight is of interest to me. I would love to see what the whole package weighs.

itll probably be ~350-375 hp.

Here's my thought process behind a 100 lb difference.
t-56 magnum - 135 lbs.
LS3 - 415 lbs.
TKO-600 - 100 lbs.

With a v6 being 75% of a v8, but the heavy parts are the front and back of the engine, the v6 may be 85% of the v8 weight. .85*415 = 352lb. 62 lbs lighter

There's the 62 lb savings on the engine, and the 35 lb savings on the 5-speed, so we're at 97 lbs lighter than ls3/t56 combo. If the LT1 weighs 460 lbs by going to DI, we're looking at more of a 55 lb savings over an LS3 crate, and we're looking at a 90lb savings.

Well, if the LT1 is to make 450hp, and the 4.3 is a perfect scalar of that, we're looking at 312hp. If the LT1 makes say, 480 foot pounds, we're looking at 332 foot pounds out of the 4.3.

The 4.3 and 3.6 are probably similar sizes. The 3.6 needs a 20% shorter deck height, cosine wise anyways.

If the 4.3 is directly scalar of the 3.6's 312 hp, we're looking at 370hp!

Man, this would be a nasty motor with solid lifters...

Its not.
3.6 is DOHC, 4.3 is cam in block (still variable though).

323 horsepower for 2013 - 2014/2015 is around 350 (I think its 352 to be exact)
Keep in mind though thats with a four-cam variable timing engine that revs to 7000+ RPM.

The 5.3 and 6.2 still would wipe the floor with it. 3.6 is NOT a torquey engine by any means. I dont belive the current model 3.6 has over 300 ft/lbs

Alot of things to learn from these new engines for 2014+

The base engine in the 2014 Silverado 1500 is the 4.3-liter EcoTec V-6 engine that produces 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque

Pretty reasonable. Thats about 80 hp and the same tq as a TBI 350.

And dead nuts the same power as a genIII 5.3

I really want to get my hands on one of these for my buggy. I'm running an Ecotec currently, but like anything else I want more! An LS based motor is physically too big, shaving off 5 inches or so of length is just what the doctor ordered.
