Default Max Hp on Gen V LT1 Rods?

Does anyone know what's the max hp the stock Gen V rods can handle?
I know the stock crank is good to go.
Drop in forged piston are a must for high hp.

Ive changed a set out on a 17 Vette, they look to be similar in design as the Gen IV stuff thats known to handle around 700 reliably and pushed to the moon with a hail mary. I imagine they are similar in strength at least if not better. The LT1 crank is forged already I believe, no crank key tho.

Thanks and keep your YouTube channel up to date with your Camaro. I love it.

we all make a good living. we should all ALSO be engine builders. who cares what power level(high rpm separation at TDC) a stock rod fails at.

we all replace stock rods with appropriate rods for the application. why is this still a question in 2019? OP, i'm not picking a fight. either stick with a SBE, or chuck the dogshit stock parts of any OEM. IMO.

The rods are very different from gen4, the small end has a tapered base, wrist pin hole has a wider base, the beam is wider and reinforced, the bearing has lock tabs in a different location, they don’t weigh the same.

Every stressed part on the Gen 5 engine has been designed by FEA (finite element analysis) making them a clean sheet design. not sure on the metallurgy on them. GM/Ford/BMW and the rest of them all shoot for a 25% increase on everything according to a Ford Powertrain engineer i know. it makes for great marketing.

Seems there is 2 different designs for Gen5, the 6.2 gets that strange looking one as I described above and 5.3 gets one similar to Gen4 with different bearing tab location. That 6.2 rod looks very stout, I’d wouldn’t be surprised to see it last high hp use.

the bearing tabs are interesting. not sure why the change, but there you go. in FEA, you can input your existing design and then just give it a percentage that you want the new part to exceed the previous one by within a given set of parameters. then the computer chugs for a week or a month, and it gives you the new design. it's almost like cheating.

This ^. I don't know what the rods will actually hold, but I have seen them and they look really stout. As in, I would not be afraid to step up the CR, the boost, or give it a 200 shot.

You should understand that the engines of today are not the engines of yore, and that these "dogshit stock parts" have been proven to handle quite a bit of power. The question is asked in 2019 because replacing parts that can already handle what will be thrown at them is a gross waste of money.

We have made 900 wheel with them, we don't recommend it however.

I strongly suggest taking your time and include a forge set of rods from the getgo I didn’t and which I did cause when it let go was a rod and lost almost the entire engine anther guy I know near my house was making 550 whp na for 3.5 months he blamed the tuner after checking the tune was spot on there’s no way to go wrong with forging.

Does the C7 Vette Z06 have an LT1 or LT4? I know it's a 6.2, but I wasn't sure if it was the same engine. In any case, I know someone who has a twin turbo C7 Z06 on stock internals. I haven't seen his dyno sheet, but I heard he is close to 1000 Whp. I have seen him runs 8's in the 1/4mi.

So, if you want to know how much hp a stock Gen.5 6.2L motor can handle, I would say enough. With a good tune, you should be safe at 800+ Whp.

That's an LT4

and they stay together at over 1k to the tires.

the lt4 has forged pistons and rods the lt1 doesnt weak point on lt1 are teh piston ringlands i think most builders agree on 700 hp before swapping pistons and rods if you dont want to change rods at least do the rod bolts as they are a big part of the rods hp rating

A lot of good info was shared. Going forged. Playing it safe. Thanks!

I would also address the thrust bearing.
