Default Valley cover removal necessary for cam install?

Is it necessary to remove the valley cover on a Gen V in order to install a cam? Will the fuel lifter lock in its tray similar to the valve lifters? If not, can the valley cover be removed without removing the injector rails? FYI...I'm putting an LT4 cam in an L83.

Thanks

You have to at least pull the fuel lines to pull the valley cover. I believe it will come out with the injectors still in. If not you can use a pry bar to pry the fuel rails up and out, I did.

As for the fuel pump just pull it out if you're concerned.

The LT4 doesn't have DOD right? If not you have to change the DOD lifters to standard lifters. I call it DOD most call it AFM

I thought the LT4 was DOD/AFM. I am pretty sure it is. IIRC, GMPP deactivates it in the ECM for swaps.
