New here from the DSM world

Sup guys, i recently decided that i was gonna save up and get a 98+ trans am. I've been in the DSM scene for 2 years now and i'm just tired of the unreliability. i currently have a 1992 Eagle talon tsi fwd, but it needs some stuff to get it back on the road. I also own a 250 ninja that i picked up cheap to get my feet wet in the cycle world, i will upgrade to something bigger after i get a car. For now its just save, and look for good deals!!

Welcome man. Once you actually get on LSX car, you will never look back.

That's a lie. :D You'll look back to say, Damn, why'd I do that instead of this?? :bang: It's all good though. The fun is building something, deciding to go a different route, and starting over. Oh yeah, and having the $$$ to do it as well.

ya, i was thinking about getting a 2g spyder as a second car, but its like man, they are just so unreliable the second you change something from stock.
So, i will just have to turbo a the trans am as next winter as long as i do find one for a good price the summer :) i was looking at the truck header turbo setup and wondered what people thought about it? i mean if theres a real big difference between that and a TT setup, then ill get the TT setup :)

JayplaySS 03-24-2009 09:51 PM

It's much more fun to build something that will go fast and start every time

I'd definitely recommend LTx or LSx F-bodies, whichever you can afford. Both are very pleasing cars, even from the factory.

I used to be a hardcore DSM guy also drooling over buying a 2G turbo with my 3G as my DD but I have gotten over that and have came to the more fun and reliable world of F-bodies.

These cars will take a BEATING and I mean a BEATING before they break; many guys can attest to that.

DSM... not so much.. lol

Let's pretend F-body is black; we'll go with the saying once you go black, you'll never go back

tording99Z28 03-24-2009 11:19 PM

Man when you get an LS1 and the first time you lay into it and feel something with some torque you are going to shit your pants!!!

Then you are very wise my friend I only wish I was that smart when I bought my first f-body. On another note what is a DSM? Talon?

mattsws6 03-25-2009 08:58 PM

As a former Galant VR4, and Evo8 RS owner I can identify with you. I now own a 2002 WS6 with bolt-ons and I enjoy it very much. The power from the LS engine is second to none. I agree with saving for an LS, you won't be sorry. Good luck with your search.

ya i drove natehale88's 13.1 second 98 auto trans am, i bet i could hit a better time with it to :P he was gonna let me run it and when he was pulling up to me i was like dude your back tire is flat, so we looked at it and he ran something over on the strip that put a hole in it, we plugged it but i didnt wanna run with a fresh plug on the rear tire.

Gluemaker 03-30-2009 02:25 PM

Yeah, man. I used to be a dsmer. I bought my first ls1, and well, i've had 4 since.

Had a AWD Talon TSi with a GT35 on it....I feel your pain...I recently picked up my first LS1 after owning EVERYTHING else and love it so far. Nice to meet another newbie around here.

Hah I picked up a nail at the track with my BRAND NEW set of drag radials. I ended up doing a patch plug and I've done 50+ passes since.

Welcome to the site! You'll love the LS1.

The realiability of these cars(or at least mine) is right up there with my moms 03 Accord. Ive never had a problem with mine over the 2 years ive owned it, thats with 100k+ miles and i drive the shit out of it some times. Get a 6 speed, much more fun and can take more abuse.

Smus 04-03-2009 11:09 AM

Welcome! Again, I came from an import background myself too...and let me tell you something, even though my cars an auto...there is nothing like putting the pedal to the floor and watching the speedo just climb like none other.

The LSx motors are amazing pieces of machinery...the kicker is, you'll probably get just as good of mileage as with your DSM.
