Been lurking on here for a while now, figure I might as well join in.

Eventually I'll be looking for a LSx swap if the engine goes out or buying an LS1 car when it's paid off.

3800 v6 (L36) with the ls1 catback , a decal package , and suspension upgrades if you chose them from SLP...

I have been into 3800 performance for a long time ( besides f bodies I also own several 3800 sc/L67 fwd cars with my pb being 12.2 @118 in one of them) and they are really stout little engines that can withstand a ton of boost. Look up Tim Kings 3800 v6 firebird , it runs 8.9 @155.

stock short block (other than cam & chain) including rotating assembly has been 8.6 @159 in a FWD GTP with twin turbos owned by ZZ performance

many single turbo strret cars out there running 11's & 12's , a few quicker.

I see the 3800 series 2&3 as the lsx's little brother , they were brought to market by GM in supercharged fashion in the same year (97) and share the same type of long term simplicity , durability ,reliabilty

Thanks guys! The car is pretty much stock besides LS1 Eibach Pro-Kit springs on the front and a half-finished OBX header to custom SLP true-dual exhaust.

I've never seen any other SLP GT's in person, one other on the net, but they had very few pics and weren't active anymore. I've tried emailing SLP to find out just how many GT's were made, but just like all the others asking on google I've had no luck. Previous owner told me 78 of them in 2002, but I'm not sure how accurate that number is.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

I believe it was that few most poeple would either stick with the regular v6 bird/camaro or step up to the v8 car when buying new because most new car sales are payment driven and the monthly difference between a v6 with slp package and a base ls1 z or formula wouldnt have been much

insurance as mentioned would possibly drive someone to the slp v6 car....

Clean car, looks nice too.

What's the mileage? Modding this one or going for an LS1 swap?

CFreed11 Nov 19, 2011 05:09 PM

87k on the clock by the end of the month when she'll go into storage til march/april.. no major mods planned yet. First thing is to get it paid off, which will happen by the beginning of next summer. If the engine ever goes out, then it'll be an LSx swap for sure, other wise I'll probably end up saving for an LS car to use as my toy. The insurance was a big reason for going the v6 route when I bought her last year.

Insurance on these cars is not that bad, even if you do get an LS1. They are so old nowadays, V6's are making the same power or more in today's world.

if you car is so rare, why take it apart for a swap?... buy a roller and build that....

why87 Nov 19, 2011 08:28 PM

love the 3800 birds, still fun even without the 2 extra slugs

I never knew SLP offered a performance option for the firebird....kinda neat...

Yep. They even offered one for the V6 Camaro. had some extra paint on the hood, and pretty much everything the Firebird GT did.

metalmilitia606 Nov 19, 2011 09:21 PM

These cars are kind of rare. I would just keep it as it is. Buy a ls car and play with that. You can find some m6 cars for as little as 4k now if you look hard enough.

1gt2nv Nov 20, 2011 01:22 PM

Op, get a zzp turbo set up and run 11's all day with that v6!

CFreed11 Nov 20, 2011 11:39 PM

I did have a pair of turbos and a Vortech supercharger earlier this year and was less than $1000 away from going F/I, but other things came up and life plans changed so I sold all the goodies and made getting the car paid off my priority. A supercharged build is still in the back of my mind, but I'm leaning towards just getting an LS car when I can and keeping the SLP GT stock or as close to it for rarity sake..

tbssuvette Nov 22, 2011 07:32 PM

Yea i would def. do a ls / lsx swap in that thing
