What's up yall? My name is Chap, short for Chapman. I'm originally from Morgan City, Louisiana and currently reside in Lawrenceville, Ga. I'm an Army vet. I was brought to this site by kainedogg. He is a close friend of mine and a former Army colleague. My project has not begun yet, but I have a 1981 Buick Regal. It has a few mods but nothing special. Sbc/th350 setup. The car has been sitting for a couple years due to a broken transmission and financial woes..... But i think I can get it back on track now. My objective is to do a budget-minded ls build. No boost or juice, just a dependable, NA, 350-450 HP daily driver. I'm currently debating what to do now. The car needs a good bit of work to be road worthy with its current setup. I need a 2nd vehicle. My question is should I get a 700r4 and fix the regal or buy a beater truck and chunk the Sbc setup to start on the ls build? I'm more than likely going with the 5.3. Let me know, and check out my boy's thread.

Man I miss that car brother. It kept me motivated in Atlanta. Every time you showed up Charlene had something done to it.

I say buy something simple and decent to putt around in, ie, Civic and do a 5.3\4l60e combo on the G-body. Things that killed me on Jez were the wiring harness, and getting things wrong that I did not have to. Read the build sections and photo copy their progress and apply it. What I learned from the car, I am applying to the C10 to minimize cost. The 6.0 is going in the truck this weekend as is the 5.3 in the Lemans. Both getting turbos. Twin T70's for the car and single T76 for the truck. Building my own harness for the truck, vs the $509 I paid for the last harness and ecm. Check this site out and see if you can dig it. You were always more hands on than I was, so you can probably do your harness in a weekend. http://lt1swap.com/2000harness.htm Lastly chec out Mervs Monte Carlo swap for ideas.

Personally... I say go ahead and take that truck in the background and make it your new project. What year is it?

Older model trucks like that are my absolute favorite! Always wanted a matte black chopped mid 60s or 70s with a 454, 4:10s, with a nice little supercharger whine on the side.

That's a 76 f100. It belonged to my dad and its a LONG way from even trying to make a project! It sat through a couple of hurricanes and is now mainly rust. But thats gotta wait. Gotta get Charlene moving again.

Welcome ! 80 Camino here that just got the 5.3 treatment. Honestly the deciding factor for me to do the 5.3 instead of beefing the 327 i had in it before up was simply cost. I personally know someone that runs an insurance claim salvage yard and basically bought an engine(2001 117k miles) , trans, harness, all the accessories and anything else i wanted for parts for 1300 bucks. And if i blow it up he will give me another one. A good set of aftermarket heads i was looking at for the 327 was pricing in that ballpark . To top it off i sold my engine and trans and got 850 out of it. Basically all i bought was the trans and all the crap to set it in . If ya have any questions just ask . Lots of good people here that are familiar with the swap. Good luck with your project!

Its a great car Merv. Back in the day when we were E-4's Stationed in Atlanta, we would line up at the light with another buddy Chris Coleman who had a blue '76 Monte Carlo on 295\50\15's. Smoky burnouts for all, good times

ps.

Of course Jezibel won, but it was close
