Hey I'm Jon hey guys im Jon and i joined because i was wondering what LS1 ment first and foremost and second this is the first thing that popped up when i googled if you can put a 97 corvette engine in a 97 firebird |
Well hi Jon. Ur in the right place for something like that. Gotta ask though, unless u are in love with a 97 bird body, why don't u go get a 98 bird and u can have exactly what ur after. Would recommend that ya don't go around callin it a corvette motor on here to much though. It's just an ls1. Came out in 97 first in the corvette. 98-02 trans-ams and camaros got it and the 04 GTO had it as well. In 05 the LS2 was introduced in the vette. Alittle history for ya. Simple answer to your question is yes though. Look in the conversion and hybrids section. Prob been done already, it's goin in imports now. Whatever ya do good luck and do lots of research! |
Hi Jon. LS1 is just a code GM uses for the engine. If you are going to go through all the trouble of an engine swap anyway, get something better than a 97 LS1 out of a corvette. I put a stroked LS2 in my 99 TA when I was 19, and Ive been looking for more power since then. Since you are between 17-18, I would say do some little things to the LT1 then, when you get tired of it sell and buy a 98-02. |

Hi jon if you haven't bought the v6 firebird, doNOT buy it. You won't be happy with it. Do it right the first time & get the v8. |

Although the body basically is the same, the engine and all supporting parts were changed for the 1998 model year. It will be a lot of work to put an LS engine into a 1997 f-body. You will come out ahead by just buying an LS equipped car. |
hi jon welcome to ls1tech... im going to have to agree with the other guys. if you want a ls1 then get a car that already came with one. if not your going to have to change quite a bit parts like harnesses, ecu, some dash coponents just so you have everything working right. will cost you more in money to convert a lt1 or a v6 into a ls1. just spend the extra money and get a ls1 car. |
