Default New guy!

Hello everyone, finally signed up for LS1 Tech. I have a 69 Chevelle, currently running a 383 stroker and TH350. I've start collecting a 6.0 and 4l80E. I'm sure I will have a lot of questions! I'm hoping next winter after my wedding to start the build and maybe have it ready by this time next year.

Welcome!

I've done 2 69 Chevelles. They are one of the easiest swaps I've done.

Nice, any pictures or things that I should know about ahead of time? And what oil pans and accessorydrives did you use?

Stock truck accessories, F-body oil pan. Stock small block mounts with setback adapter plates. I used the stock flexplate in one of them to mate it to a TH350, you just need a $25 hub sleeve for the converter. I'll have to post pictures later. I do have a few Youtube videos, but mainly when it was a WIP, nothing of the finished product after cleaning up the engine bay.

The 2nd one was a white 4-door 69. Basically the same setup but we swapped in a 4L60e to go with the 5.3.

Very nice looking car. I didn't know a stock f-body pan would work. My concern with the setback adapters is clearance issues in the trans tunnel with the 4l80e. From what I've researched it can get tight.

I had to use a big big hammer on my last 4L80e swap. You can't use the F-body pan without setback mounts. So if you want to move the engine forward, you'll need different mounts completely.

The biggest issue is trans cooler fittings. Banjo or 90* trans fittings are a must for floor clearance.

Thank you, if I move the engine back will there be enough room for the 4l80e with some hammering or am I best just to use the standard mounts?

There will be enough room, but it will be a lot of hammering. I spent about 20 minutes with a hammer on my Nova.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. It is a little bit of weight transfer, not much but every little bit helps.
