Are you wanting to swap an LT1 or an LS1 in? The 97 will have an LT1.

definitely hold out for ls1. it has so much more power than i expected. 300whp stock is pretty ridiculous. The top end power is awesome, but i have never driven in an lt1 so i wouldn't know how that is. I've heard that they are more of torque monsters tho

Are you sure it's an LT4? Those are pretty rare. Being a 97 doesn't mean it is. I would do an LS swap, they're prettier lol

If you are going to do a swap and you do not have the LTx motor, I would wait for a LSx motor. IMHO , Nothing wrong with the LTx motor. The LSx motors are just the next generation and are easy motors to get some decent horsepower out of. Again nothing really wrong with the LTx motors.. Roger

LTx motors are ok but just think about the opti the LSx are lighter and respond better to mods.

TAC is a great site too. The 97 should be an LT1. Wait the LSx out.
